Comedian Jeni Dies in Apparent Suicide

By ANA BEATRIZ CHOLO
Associated Press Writer

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Richard Jeni, a standup comedian who played to sold-out crowds, was a regular on the "Tonight Show" and appeared in movies, died of a gunshot wound in an apparent suicide, police said Sunday.

Police found the 45-year-old comedian alive but gravely injured in a West Hollywood home when they responded to a call Saturday morning from Jeni's girlfriend, Los Angeles Police Officer Norma Eisenman said.

Eisenman said the caller told police: "My boyfriend shot himself in the face."

2. Man, that sucks.
We really liked that last HBO special he did.
Sorry that he was so troubled. That's upsetting that no one could tell/do anything.

4.  That's sad
My condolences to his family. Horrible way to die. I didn't care much for his comedy, always seems like he was trying a bit too hard. But I'm sorry for his pain.

5. Aw crap.
I loved his Platypus Man special on HBO - never saw his last one. He was my age, which makes it all the more freaky. :(

10. I've heard it said that most comedy comes from a dark place.
Poor man. May he rest in peace.
