Wrestling fans . . ANOTHER DEATH AGAIN! R.I.P Ernie Ladd...
http://www.411mania.com/wrestling/news/51721/Ernie-Ladd-Passes-Away.htm

Damn, this has just been a bad few months for wrestling . . .

I hate to say it.. I never seen any of his work . . but I always heard good things about it. It was good enough for the WWE to induct him.

R.I.P Ernie.

1. Another one! RIP Ernie Ladd
I just got done posting about Bad News Brown's death and now the "Big Cat" is no longer with us. I didn't see many of his matches either, but he was considered one of wrestling's best big men.

12. He had cancer.
Edited on Sun Mar-11-07 08:55 PM by Fenris
And the current world average lifespan is 66; the average U.S. male lifespan is around 75.

The man played in the AFL - how young could he be?

Just look at King Kong (Bruiser) Brody. He got the cancer stabbed out of him in Puerto Rico.

7. The Big Cat
When I was a kid growing up in the early 70's in Clevo Ernie had a couple of nice runs here w/ the NWF (run by Pedro Martinez). I was at The Cleveland Arena in 73 when the babyface of the NWF (Johnny Powers) turned on Ernie during a match and started a riot; it was incredible.

Ernie wrestled everywhere, and love him or hate him in the ring, he was a Legend.

RIP Ernie.

8. Ladd also played in the NFL/AFL during the 60's.
I beleive that he was a defensive lineman for the KC Chiefs and the Chargers.

10. I remember that he was the first person I saw in professional football who was
over 300lbs. That of course was before the days of steroids.

9. He was a pretty good football player as well
Him and a guy named Buck Buchanan teamed to make a couple of fearsome defensive linemen with Kansas City in the old AFL. RIP Ernie Ladd.

11. A snip from my local paper....he was from a small town near here....
http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070311/UPDATES02/70311008

Ladd, 68, had battled cancer — first in his colon, then later in his stomach and bones — since 2004. Born Nov. 28, 1938, in Rayville, but raised in Orange, Texas, he worked through his final years as a pastor in the Louisiana town of Franklin.

Funeral arrangements were still pending today, according to Roslyn Ladd, his wife of more than 45 years.

Selected 15th in the American Football League draft by San Diego out of Grambling College, Ladd appeared in three of that now-defunct league's championship games, winning the 1963 title.

"We were like a family," Ladd told The News-Star in May 2005. "We were one of the first integrated teams, with black players and white players as roommates."

He had entered professional football as a heralded 1960 first-team all-league defensive college lineman under former Grambling coach Eddie Robinson. There, Ladd helped GSU to its first-ever Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.

14. I remember him
He wasn't much of a showman, IIRC. Just a good wrestler. And one of the good guys.

Safe passage, dude.
