We are not in any danger, but our air quality just went way downhill in a big hurry.

We could see the huge plume of smoke from our house.

I honestly hope everyone in the immediate vicinity stays safe and does not suffer any more great loss (already one house is gone).

:(

2. Yeah!
My mom called me today asking if we were okay. She knows we are not immediately close to the danger, but both my daughter and I have respiratory problems.

Looks like the kiddos will be eating their lunch indoors tomorrow, and no recess.

9. No kidding
I think, though, that I would be a SMART crow and fly AWAY from the fire.

Just a guess.

14. "pyro crow"? is that someone who drops their lit cigarette in some
dried brush rather than putting it out in the birdbath?

10. Hear hear!
I am hoping and wishing for no loss of life, among the citizens, the animals, and among the emergency crews.

...we're about the same distance away. So far nothing has burst into flames, but I'm expecting to wake up wreathed in fire later tonight. I always wanted a Viking burial.

21. It's the happening place!
Actually, it isn't. Not much happens here at all, although we did have a car chase that ended in a brief hostage siege at the local dentist's office a few weeks back. Just another reason to avoid the dentist. :)

17. It looks like the wildfire was an arson!
Someone stole a car, drove it into a canyon and lit it on fire.

:grr:

It is, according to the morning local news, now 80% contained, but I think two houses were lost.

18. Wildfires are so scary
I educated my sister about California and wildfires while I was down there the other day - I saw her throw a lit cigarette out the window. :scared:

We were right in the city but I told her you NEVER, NEVER do that in California (not that you should do it anywhere).

The fire danger had never occurred to her - she comes from a place that gets plenty of rainfall.

20. I didn't but I had a great time
My nephew had some fun things planned and I just went along for the ride. We went to the Santa Monica Pier and Venice Beach and we wandered around the Venice canals which was my favorite part. What a cool place to live!

Saturday morning we went to Griffith Observatory which was a lot of fun. And we hit several nice pubs. :toast:

It was a good time - thanks for asking! :hi:

23. Wildfires are no fun at all :(
When I was living in UTC during my freshman year at UCSD (2003) we got a week off school because of the encroaching wildfires. The air was so bad that people bought simple styrofoam gas masks to cover their noses because the smoke was so thick and ashes were falling on the ground (some the size of small leaves).

The worst thing about it was that back home in Chatsworth my mom was going through the same thing at the same time, so going home wouldnt've done a helluva lot of good :(

Anyways, nothing happened to me or my family so all was well.
