1. Maybe it's a placeholder until they can think of the one they want?
:P

15. I can't say for sure, but I think it might come from the phrase "word is bond."
Again, I'm just taking a moderately educated guess with that.

23. In the alternative, it may come from the phrase "word up."

28. "word to your mother"
Could be mistaken, but I believe it's meant to say your mother would consider that it is the Word, scripturally.

6. Very often, it means "I'm a poser who thinks using hip-hop slang from
the 90s will make me look cool." Other than that, it means what poster #2 so succinctly expressed. Word.

12. Now you've done it.
When Randy Jackson on American Idol insists on referring to everyone as 'dog,' it just sends my blood pressure through the roof. I scream at the tv, "you were in Journey, for Chrissakes!! You're a record producer and music industry bigwig!! Quit pretending your some Crip who just popped a cap in someone's ass and act your age!!" His incessant "yo yo yo" is another source of irritation. I imagine that, in his off time, his real voice sounds like Geoffrey in "Fresh Prince."

21. There's an easier way.
Urban Dictionary is good for stuff like this.

This old lady has had to use it several times.

Became "word to you," "word to your mother's own," "Word to your mother," then "word." Soon it will just be "wa.."

27. Usually it's an emphatic agreement with what somebody says, like "Fuck yeah!"
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 05:11 PM by WritingIsMyReligion
I think it's shortened from people saying "That's the word!", from "That's the truth!"

#1: Dude, that's one slammin' chick.
#2: WORD!
