Men Try To Skip Out On Paying $100 Waffle House Tab During Fight Between 2 Women
<snip>

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) -- A bizarre incident at a Waffle House led to four Lexington men being cited by police following a high-speed chase.

Devin Chenault, 21, Shawn Caldwell, 18, Robert Greer, 19, and Marcus Graves, 18, were sitting at the counter in the restaurant early Friday morning when a fight between two girls broke out. A restaurant employee flagged down nearby police officers to help break up the fight, and when the officers entered the restaurant the four men took off without paying their nearly $100 tab.

Richmond Police Chief Wanda Singleton and two detectives tried to stop the men in the parking lot, but the men hopped in a car and nearly struck the officers as they were leaving the lot, according to Richmond police.

Police chased the men at speeds reaching 100 mph before the men crashed into a pole. The men tried to run away after the crash, but were captured by authorities.

All four men were charged with alcohol intoxication. Chenault was also charged with fleeing and evading, resisting arrest and identity theft. Caldwell, the driver, faces charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence and 10 counts of wanton endangerment.

Graves and one of the police officers were treated for minor injuries at Central Baptist hospital.

2. LOL! That's what I was thinking
They must have some new special waffles and hash browns that I'm not aware of. It's one of the few places in town where I can stuff myself for less than $10.

5. I don't live in the South and can't recall if I've
even been to one during my travels over the years, but I've always been under the impression that their menu made Denny's look relatively upscale in comparison. No particular knock against the quality...just that it was about as basic as you could get for breakfast foods.

7. You never met my brothers when they were teenagers. They preferred
all-you-can-eat restaurants because they generally could down what most folks would consider several meals worth of food. They probably could've eaten $25 each of food at a Waffle House, even back in the 70s.

LOL. I remember one of them abandoning his regular size bowl at an all-you-can-eat buffet and just grabbing the entire serving bowl of rice pudding from the ice. My mother was so embarrassed.

14. When my cousins were teens, I just took them to the Old People's Buffet
otherwise, they ate me out of house and home. they would each eat 4 plates of hot food before eating bowl after bowl of ice cream.

I'd eat 2 or 3 plates of salad and just watch them pig out.

3. My Waffle House story:
Miz t. and I had breakfast there a while back.
When the waitress came over she seemed distracted and was looking out toward the parking lot. Then said "Excuse me a minute."

She went over and spoke with an elderly woman sitting alone.
The woman looked out at the parking lot and then put her face in her hands. I think she was crying.

The waitress then went up to 3 young guys who were paying their checks and spoke with them. They looked like construction workers. One nodded his head. She got the woman and walked her over to the guys and after a short conversation they all 4 left together. Got in a big 4-door pickup and drove off.

The waitress came back to us.
"What would y'all like for breakfast this morning?"
I said "OK, I gotta ask. What was all that about?"
"Oh, I know that couple. They live nearby in my neighborhood. They come in for breakfast every morning. He has Alzheimer's. A few mintes ago he went to the men's room. When he came out I saw him walk out to their car and drive off. I think he forgot she was with him. Those fellas said they'd give her a ride home. And now she's worried her husband won't find his way back to their house."

I always wondered how that story came out.

We're always hearing about the bad things people do and it's easy to forget the acts of kindness. Thanks for telling this story.

6. Bet they wished they'd paid the $25 each now.
The car chase, the DUI, resisting arrest and other charges are going to cost them A LOT more than that.

Although I do have to wonder why the police chased them at 100 mph, sounds like that could've ended in tragedy for some innocent motorist who happened along. It's a good thing no one was killed.

I've never been to one, but I've heard their menu is fairly inexpensive.

18. Don't ever go to the Waffle House!
The owner of the brand forced all the stores in GA to put up signs for Ralph Reed when he was running for Lt. Gov. last year. Waffle House is a huge right wing supporter.

Don't willingly give them your money. There are plenty of other places to go when you are drunk and need to eat.

20. Stupid, stupid police...Nothing like a 100 mph chase with a crash and all over food.
They majorly overreacted...and I don't buy the vehicle as a weapon justifies the police using their vehicles as weapons.

Fuck the police.
