score one more for the bitch.
kiddo was officially accepted at the school of her choice. crazy attendance clerks lies were expunged. (although the principal blamed it on the classroom teacher! who is a great teacher, just the kind that nclb is designed to get rid of!)
it saddens and angers me, though, to think of the kids whose parents would have just accepted the rejection and not fought. especially the many non-english speaking families. i made it clear that i thought they had better be looking over other records, and correcting them as well. you just can't survive these bureaucracies if you can't stand up to authority.
i know i can be a bitch. i know i have made enemies of people that i would rather have as friends. but, god damn it, sometimes you just gotta be a bitch.

5. it is a chicago public school
although not the neighborhood school.
it is downtown. kiddo is dying to be a part of that whole thing there, museums, theaters, art galleries, you know, that city stuff.
it is hard to fight for your kids in these giant bureaucracies. and so important to know what is happening in your school. big reason that the kids went to the local school, when they could easily have gotten into a magnet. i do not think this would have a happy ending, but for my relationship with teachers and admin, both.
although this school is far from home, dad works around the corner.
just so happy.
