This season seems weaker than last season, so I did a comparison. I think there are 5 with a lot of talent out of the 12 (Melinda, LaKisha, Jordin, Gina, and Blake,) and there were 5 last year (Katharine, Taylor, Bucky, Mandisa, and Paris.) But the second-tier singers were better last season. The group of Kellie, Ace, Elliott, Chris, Melissa, and Lisa was better than Chris Sligh, Stephanie Edwards, Brandon Rogers, and Haley Scarnato. And there are more weak singers this season: Phil, Chris R., and Sanjaya - only Kevin last season. I still can't believe America picked Sanjaya over Sundance! Sundance was inconsistent, but really could shine on the right song.

Tonight, my favorite three were LaKisha (best,) Melinda, and Blake. Gina shouted the song a bit much and wasn't nearly as good as last time, but she held her own on a hard night. The only positive surprise was Phil sounding better than he did before. Haley was worse, but her voice is always too thin. Brandon REALLY disappointed me.

This season...not so much. Last year I watched because of Chris and there was much more talent. Except Taylor Hicks :puke:

I think I was jaded because I have a thing for bald men. :) But I do love his voice. Taylor wasn't really bad...I was just rooting for Chris. It all turned out good though since I think he's #1 on the pop charts now.

from last year are still having it out online. It got so bad that Amazon got rid of most of the 1-star-reviews for the Idol CDs. I can't see why people can't support their favorites without feeling the need to put down others.

in anything competitive and especially when it's as subjective as music. Just like the music threads here...people are pretty opinionated about their likes and dislikes. Sorry if I offended you about my comment about Taylor...I just don't like his voice or his style and didn't think he should have won. But, again...just personal preference.

Unlike politics, your music taste is your music taste. You can give reasons why you like or don't like someone, but in the end, taste is subjective. I would think music would be the last thing people would argue about. I guess some people get passionate and can't help it. I'm passionate but can deal with other opinions easily.

Melinda Doolittle and Lakisha Jones were both knockouts. The rest were mediocre, but at least those 2 added up to 3 minutes of genuine music!

I despise this show. I think it's this generation's version of The Gong Show. I didn't like The Gong Show either, but at least it didn't pretend to be a talent show like American Idol.
