1. I went with Can't Buy A Thrill
But most of their albums are pretty much top-notch.

2. I went with 'Countdown' although I like all the Steely Dan 1.0 albums
As for Steely Dan 2.0, I thought 'Two Against Nature' was uneven and too self-referential (Sounded like they were plagiarizing their 1970's selves)

I have not heard anything from 'Everything Must go'

8. "My Old School" is always fun.
My cousin sings to that, as well as playing air organ to "Do It Again." :eyes:

25. I voted CtE
And you can't talk about that album without "The Boston Rag". I posted about being disappointed in the show I saw last year, but the 1st time I saw them they opened with The Boston Rag and blazed from there.

7. Agreed
I was very disappointed with "Two Against Nature". Yes, it was just a re-hash of older stuff (older un-released materiel perhaps?)

3. Aja
Brings back so many memories of my senior year in high school. Also my first love. Thanx for the reminder! I just popped it into my stereo 2 minutes ago! Had not listened to it in ages.

14. "My Rival" weirds me out.
I much prefer to listen to THIS on loop, over and over and over again:

That Rhodes chord hit over and over again, along with the trippy guitar and Mark Knopfler's 3-second cameo, is freaking addictive.

Plus Fagen's sarcasm is so ON through the whole thing.

I'm holding the mystical sphe-aa
It's die-rect from Lhasa.
People theah are rolling in the snow...

Plus when he sings the "It's the light in my eyes" line the second time, the arranging on "eyes," the echo as his voice does this angsty little leap upwards ("EYYYEEEEE-s!"), is terrific.

19. Oh Fuck Man.........
Mark Knopfler. I remember the first Dire Straits album. What a revelation! Most radio stations were playing disco at the time and then along comes Dire Straits. I wore out my first copy of that album on vinyl. I remember that I bought a second copy and my dad made a tape for me on his TEAC reel to reel tape deck for me. For him too........he loved that band.

You are giving me alot of ideas for stuff to listen to tonight and I thank you for that. Memories.........

Saw them in concert during that album. They were with Sha Na Na and Mason Proffit. Good Friends, Good Time, Good Music, Great Smoke.. Man that was a good concert!

20. I had to go with Aja; it's just a pure nostalgia trip for me - listened to it
endlessly my first year at college, no TV, raising a daughter alone, just lots of baby stuff and homework and music...

That album and a couple of others damn near got worn paper thin!

23. Do I have to pick just one?
I guess I'll have to go with Can't Buy a Thrill on thde strength of Midnight Cruiser, Only a Fool Would Say That and Reelin' in the years. Though, if I could only have one Steely Dan album, I would be happy with any of the ones that I have owned including CtE, Pretzel Logic and Aja. Thanks for the memories!

and that's my all-time favorite Steely Dan song.

But they are really all great in their own way.
