Update on dumped cat, she is dead.
From now on I will segregate any dumped animals and take them to the pound at my first opportunity. I have a very low opinion of myself right now for allowing her to be killed.
I had her by my side all Saturday evening and into Sunday. I fed her and watered her but she couldn't get near the litter box due to harassment from my dogs and cats. I decided I would take her outside to let her do her business. She took off the minute I put her down on the ground. I kept my animals inside in hopes she would return. Late in the evening my guys HAD to go outside. I figured she was long gone. In the morning I found her body in the the front yard. One of the young dogs "Moe", has bleeding in his right eye so I know he was in on it. I will not punish any of the dogs because it was entirely my fault.
I know I could have done better. I was hoping I could give this cat a good home here with me. I would love to meet the creep who decided to dump this perfectly good animal "out in the country" rather than taking care of it themselves.
I have decided to install video cameras up on the road. I have been getting too many dumped animals here. People think that if they can't see houses anything goes. In Tennessee it is animal cruelty to dump an animal, if I get evidence I am going to insist on prosecuting EVERY dumper I can. I will make it stop on my road.

2. You did the best you could.
I hope you do get the cameras and start showing the dumpers cars and faces to the police. They won't fix their animals and then when they have kittens or puppies the first thing they think of is dumping them...they make me sick.

3. You show them.
They need to know that you won't take any more animal cruelty.

6. I don't see where you allowed anything.
You did what you could, and THAT, my friend, is a lot more than many would. Dismiss your low opinion of yourself. If you did the best you could, then there's no shame nor wrong in that. If this drives you to take on the "dumpers" then that's a positive, and good to see.

I'm sorry that "dumped cat" had a short-lived time there, but you really can't blame yourself like this. Taking her to the pound might well limit her chances, depending upon "inventory" at the time, and their capacity.

7. I don't have it in me to do what my neighbors do.
Apparently this happens a LOT around here. I have discussed it with neighbors and most say they just shoot the animals. I can't kill something that is not a threat or that I don't intend to eat. It just ain't in me, killing is not fun. I can't really blame the neighbors, frequent visits to the pound get old. Last time I was there with a dumped animal, they acted as if I was the one that was irresponsible. I have eight animals, I can not afford to keep many more.
I don't know what goes through these peoples minds. How the fuck does an animal that has been hand fed for its entire life survive in the wild? Is it now acceptable to dump a baby out on a country road to "live free"? How about alzheimer's patients?

(P.s.- sorry for getting worked up and using the word "fuck". Normally I try not to use vulgar language but I ask for a pass today. These "people" have me a little upset)

8. I can fully understand your anger. I grew up in the country and
every year, usually in the springtime, there would be several dogs and cats dumped in the area where we lived. Most were pregnant female dogs or puppies. We took in several and took care of them and tried to find homes for them and for their pups, but many of them had to be taken to the Humane Society and we were never sure of their fate. So many of the others either got run over by cars, died of disease or maybe starvation and some undoubtedly were shot by people who didn't want stray dogs around because they are prone to run in packs and can be a threat to livestock. In a pack they can bring down full grown cattle and have been known to attack people.

I am an animal lover, but it would be much kinder to have an animal put down than to dump it on the side of the road and expect it to take care of itself. Most dumped animals do not live very long, and their brief lives are not pleasant. The people who dump them are practicing animal cruelty, for sure, and should be prosecuted if they can be found.
