Poll question: Do you wear a watch?

I just received the watch I ordered in the mail, and it got me to thinking. I haven't worn a watch in a really long time. Like three years. Anyway, here it is...

I'm going through a Columbia/outdoorsy phase. It'll be great for camping and vacation.

2. I'm having a hard time finding one I like and can afford that does not have

a stainless steel back on it; I'm allergic to nickel and break out, and I don't always wear pants with belt loops, so it's hard to get one of those kind on a carabiner; used to have one and it just got in the way. And I prefer something a little dressy, since I have to work in an office environment and am usually in business attire (I'm in HR), so...

I have something my grandmother gave me for college graduation - I wear that for formal occasions. Otherwise, nope. My wrists are thin... they always hang like bracelets.

I keep fairly accurate time in my head. I used to wear one at work cuz I'm a nurse. I wish I'd picked Robb is a ding bat. It has such a nice ring to it. :)

it would be completely superfluous.

And I've always had an odd problem with watches...they just stop working on me...batteries die long before they should and after a couple of battery changes even fresh batteries don't bring them back to life. I've never had one high end enough to bring to a jeweler to find out what happened to it so I don't know what it is.

27. Since the economy isn't looking good for the future

I bought a watch as an investment. I figured that if things get "really" bad, the watch itself will be like quick currency. I stopped contributing to my mutual funds and got it.

Other than that one I wear a Timex Ironman for Lady to work. It looks pretty much like that one, with a velcro strap. I had one similar for camping but I damaged it with insect repellent. The repellent ate up the plastic and could not see the time.

43. Why not? I have clocks in my office and house, and one in my car. If I'm not in any of those places

(let's say I'm trout-fishing for example, or riding my bicycle), I don't CARE what time it is.

Besides, I can't stand to have stuff on my body. I tried, I REALLY did, to wear a wedding ring after gettign married to Mrs R, but I just couldn't do it. Ended up losing the damn thing, actually, because I would put it on every time I went out of the house and took it off the SECOND I got back.

And my parents did give me a watch (a tradition in our family) when I graduated from high school, but I just could NOT stand to have the damn thing on my wrist. did it valiantly for the better part of one day, and gave up.

(PS: Last statistics I saw said that only 4 percent of americans have never worn a watch.)

I've worn them in phases, but I generally found them uncomfortable. I haven't worn one in 10+ years. Plus I have to many other devices that will tell me the time - Ipod, cell phone, etc.

I have a kinda nice Seiko quartz watch my bio mom gave me for my birthday 15 years ago, but I don't wear it around the house. Don't need to; there're three clocks in the kitchen alone — on the microwave, the oven and the coffee maker. In my bedroom is the alarm clock and the VCR clock, and my answering machine will tell me the time if I push a button. And, o' course, my computer has a time display.

Mine is a Seiko quartz.....it's analog, with a sweep second. The numbers are raised and black, very easy to read!

Ever since I got struck by lightning, watches have died within a few days of my putting them on. It's not the battery - changing it doesn't help. I just kill them. :(

The bummer of it all is that I like watches and have a bunch of them. They're all dead. But I decided that no one is going to notice if my watch works or not so I just wear 'em as a fashion statement.

To be fair, it was an indirect hit which is probably why I'm here to tell the tale. The bolt struck an electric fence wire about a foot above my head and jumped through me, the horse I was holding and the blacksmith who was shoeing him. Knocked me about 8 feet across the field onto my back where I lay stunned for a moment. This was in '77, I believe.

It wasn't painful - I heard a loud BANG and felt a tingling sensation through my whole body. Couldn't move for a few moments but that may have just been reaction. Not a mark on me.

I jumped up and calmed the horse, we finished the shoeing job and then I realized what had just happened. Pretty freaky. And from that day on, I haven't been able to wear a watch.

71. I use 3, for different situations;

an old beat-up Timex Triathlon with black nylon band for everyday (work) use, a "business casual" Swiss Army classic olds-school style with a leather band for everyday away from work, and a nice Seiko for "dressy occasions" that's kind of a stylistic knock-off of a Movado from several years back.
