I gave all the cash I had with me (7, 8 dollars) to a woman with two gold teeth standing with her baby outside the store I was leaving this afternoon. She spoke a Slavic language and held an index card that explained her needs (money to feed her baby). Onlookers made fun of me for giving.

I really did try, and you can ask Mrs R. But it made me nuts, because I've never worn jewelry of any sort, nor even a wristwatch. Got to the point where I'd put in on when I was going out of the house / office, and took it off right away when I got back.

And you know what THAT habit led to, right? You're right: Lost ring.

Fortunately, Mrs R understands, and has not pressured me to replace it.

and I have an "engagement" ring that I wear with it. IT has a stone and snags on things sometimes. Mostly, I wear my rings because I want people to know I am married and I think they look nice and of course, I am attached to them cuz my hubby gave them to me.

The saddest thing is when widows wear their husband's ring on a chain around their neck. My boss and my coworker do that. It is sweet but I feel so bad for them...

not any more. I busted the knuckle up on my left ring finger pretty bad about 10 years ago. It left the knuckle larger than it used to be. I had the ring resized to fit over the knuckle, but then it was loose and flopped around too much once I slid it all the way on. The Mrs, doesn't care, we never have been too much into the whole symbolism thing of it anyway.

My engagement ring/wedding ring belonged to my husband's mother, and she left it to him when she died. My FiL gave it to her right before he shipped out during WWII. It's a very slender set, platinum, with a diamond and baguette's on the engagement ring, and a tiny row of diamonds on the wedding ring. I told my husband, when we decided to make it legal, that I didn't want the whole ring thing, but I didn't know his mother's set had been saved for him in a safety deposit box. It was pretty much the only thing, worth anything, the she had left for him.

Sometimes, I wear nothing at all (it's loose at times) or I just wear the wedding ring, which is so slender it doesn't look like a wedding ring. I've has people "approach" me when I'm just wearing the wedding ring, and held it up to indicate my status. Several have been mad, because they didn't recognize it as a wedding ring.

OTOH, I've had many compliments on it (all by women) because it's so dainty, and not showy at all.

with something better and kept putting it off. Our procrastination worked in our favor this time because now we can get our new rings made to the correct size. Part of my job involves doing fan checks and other maintenance inside of computer servers while they're running (most high-quality modern servers allow hot swapping of parts). One day, I fried a computer because my wedding ring hit a couple of hot solder joints. After that, we posted a notice on the server cages reminding people to remove their rings when servicing the equipment. Over the following three months, I accidentally left my ring in servers on three different occasions...including one day when I'd checked 14 different machines. Luckily, I'd left it in the third, and hadn't decided to work through them backwards.

At first, I just started leaving it in my office, but after forgetting it a few times I just stopped wearing to work completely. Then I stopped putting it on AFTER work.

Nowadays, I only wear it on weekends when I'm not doing anything physical, or when I'm going out with my wife. She wears hers religiously, but has no problem with me not wearing mine.

To the ring, or to me. See, the ring is 119 years old and the original stone (a cabochon garnet of amazing size and clarity) has been reset in the original setting twice. I want to continue wearing this ring until I can pass it on to my niece, and that means taking care of it. So it does not go in water, soil or anywhere it might get icky. Fortunately, it's a cab, so I don't have to worry about snagging it on things.

DH wore his for 80% of the first two years we were married, then he lost it during year 3 for most of a year. (I found it in a bag of cans of cat food...) He's pretty good about wearing his now, but we have the same agreement there, too -- his ring is 90 years old.
