Question about QVC
My sister is a QVC addict. She begins half her sentences with, "They have that on QVC..." and the other half with, "I bought this on QVC..."

She has a collection of what I consider godawful ugly jewelry that she's bought from them and a bunch of other stuff that it seems like she could have got cheaper elsewhere - I think it's the first place she looks for anything.

So I'm just curious. I don't even watch tv, let along a shopping network - is the stuff they carry any good? And is it actually reasonably priced?

1. My mother TIVO's QVC.
It is an illness.

Usually, the prices are decent. But, I think they are just masters at getting people to buy things they really don't need. With some looking around in Google, etc, usually you can find stuff cheaper. That is what I have found with item mom wanted me to research.

2. Yeah, it's just weird
She knows the names of the salespeople (or whatever they call them) and everything. But she's the type - she got so addicted to lottery tickets a number of years ago - she was buying batches of them every week and obsessing about not missing because "what if my number comes up the one time I don't buy?" She must have spent ten thousand dollars on lottery alone.

I don't remember how she got off that habit. She probably transferred it to QVC. :eyes:

3. My mother could buy anything.
She sees something at what she thinks is a good price, and thinks she needs it. She watches the stuff all day. It drives me batty when I visit. My throat closes up when I hear it.

She has DirecTV, so there is plenty of entertaining programming to watch, but she watches QVC and HSN.

4. Only thing I have gotten from QVC is makeup.
They run specials on the makeup I use that even after shipping is cheaper than I can get at Sephora.

5. It is great for some things, but not everything.
Their silver, gold, and gemstone jewelry is usually nice for the price. Their costume jewelry is way over-priced.

Clothes... mostly over-priced, IMO. You can get better prices at the mall. Shoes are usually pretty reasonable, and they have a lot of sizes and styles that are hard-to-find in retail stores.

I sometimes buy unusual items that I have never seen anywhere else, but I'm often disappointed... like the leaf-roller-rake, and a few other tools/household items.

I probably send back about one-fourth of the things I buy. Since you have to pay for return shipping, it's not such a great deal.

It can be entertaining, though.... as well as addictive for lonely people, since it offers some interaction. If you have an addicted relative, why not offer to go shopping and take them to lunch (or a movie) to break up their solitude?

6. Because she lives 3000 miles away
She's not lonely anyway. She goes out a lot and has plenty of friends. I just wondered about the quality because she buys a ton of stuff from them.
