Poll question: Best 80s sitcom
Last week, HypnoToad posted a thread here on the worst sitcom of the 80s (I think the verdict was tie between two sitcoms both starring a fundie Cameron sibling). I'm curious to know which you think was the best sitcom of the 80s.

Choose from the list below, or feel free to add your own! :)

1. "Roseanne"
But "The Golden Girls" is a big favorite of mine.

3. But both peaked and hit their stride during the 1990s...
But both started in the 80s and were great too... :D

8. Oh yes, very good show!
I loved Roseanne, although I didn't much care for the final season. After the Conners won the lottery and were filthy rich, the show just didn't have the same appeal for me any more. Also, in my mind this is kind of a 90s sitcom, so that's why I didn't include it in the list.

And I'm with you, I loved The Golden Girls!!! Among my three closest friends in college, I'm considered the "Rose" of our group. I'm so glad you can buy all 7 seasons on DVD now--that's my next addition to my collection. :)

2. The Cosby Show
Gimme a Break went to pieces after season 1 and had to revamp its format into something more common to be viewed (and as such lost my interest), ALF died out after season 2, Night Court is admittedly great but just doesn't top the charts, Married with Children started great but became too lowbrow by season 5 and completely empty by season 7 (though season 12 dared to improve things, which is probably why it got canceled... it's known FOX didn't want to pay the stars any more money...)

Wasn't Mama's Family early-mid 80s? That show rocks... but still...

Gotta say the Cos. At least the first 4 years... it's showing on Ion weeknights and I'm rolling on the floor with bellyaches, it's that funny.

4. Oh yeah...
I forgot all about Married With Children and Mama's Family! I loved both of those shows, and you're right in your assessment of MWC. I'm not really expecting Alf to get any votes here, just thought I would throw it in to see what people will say...

Oh, and I'm curious HypnoToad, from one Futurama fan to another...why did you change your avatar from HypnoToad to Bender? Just curious... :hi:

11. I have the same quibble about Wonder Years.
IIRC, Wonder Years was a family drama, not a situation comedy.

13. I liked Golden Girls at the time, and I still think the concept was great.
But I've seen a couple episodes lately (some channel is now rerunning them) and they are really not very good. The writing is trite and predictable and the pacing is so slow. They take 5 minutes to set up a joke that anyone can see coming a mile away. I probably shouldn't have watched.

14. Cheers
I loved The Wonder Years, but wouldn't call it a "sitcom"
