Three cheers for Vicodin...
So, I have this bad tooth... even with my insurance, it'd cost me $1800 for the root canal and crown, and there's just no fucking way I can do that.. so, I brought my big jar of Ibuprofen to work today, and of course, left it there when I came home.. all that we had here was Vicodins, so.. now it still kinda hurts, but I just simply don't care.
:silly:

1. I have never had vicoden, but valium makes me the same!
I love the simply not caring part!! It is awesome!! Hope your tooth gets better! Be careful with that. Tooth infections can get nasty and dangerous, but I am sure you know that!!! ;)

5. Thanks... I am kinda concerned about it.. especially after hearing about that young kid
who died a couple weeks ago because of an infected tooth... :scared: But we (my tooth an I) seem to have a sort of arrangement for the moment.. it every now and then starts to swell (which is what leads to the pain), then I take some ibuprofin or aspirin which knocks the swelling back down (and gets rid of the pain) and we're good for a few weeks...

2. Well, your username seems particularly appropriate in this case
:D

seriously, I agree with you. Vicodin rocks. Just be careful about constipation if you have too much of it. Drink lots and lots of water! Trust me, I know. :hurts:

:hi:

3. hehe.. well, I'll probably just take one more before I go to bed, then
back to the ibuprofins tomorrow.. until I can figure out how to go about getting it yanked.

4. Nothing better in my opinion
If I could feel that way 24/7, without the tolerance issue, I'd sign the contract in a heartbeat.

Problem is, there is a tolerance issue, and that of course, leads to addiction.

Some years ago I got a prescription for 120 10mg. Vicodins for what I, and the doctor, thought was a chronic problem. In the third year I was filling that prescription every 14 days. Legally, I had to wait 14 days but I always ran out by day 12 or 13. That went on for about a year before I knew it couldn't continue. I was killing myself. Stopping was no fun at all.

I still think heaven would include a non-addictive vicodin. They are nice. Too nice.

6. It's probably kinda weird, but my user name notwithstanding, I've never really been into
the pain pills/downers..but yeah, these do good things to me. LOL

11. A lot of people don't like them at all
It upsets their stomach. Occasionally that would happen with me, but it would pass after 15 minutes or so. Some just don't like the buzz.

I'm guessing here, but I think it has something to do with physical makeup of the person. I don't care much for alcohol. I'll have a drink in a restaurant or a party, but I never drink to get drunk. I just don't get near the pleasure from it than others do. In the wrong circumstance I could see myself as a heroin addict, but never an alcoholic. Good thing too. I have zero access to opiates yet alcohol is completely ubiquitous. I admire non-drinking alcoholics for resisting the almost relentless temptation.

Too bad about the tooth btw. I know an abscessed tooth is downright misery and nothing less.

12. Thanks for the toast.
Yeah, 120 every couple of weeks is pretty gluttonous. And it got to where that wasn't enough. When I stopped, the worst was over in a few days, but for at least a few weeks after I missed them intensely. I know if someone said they had half a dozen pills on a table 3,000 miles away, I would have lied my way out of work and driven straight there, just for that feeling again for a few hours. That's not an exaggeration. That's just addictive behavior.

I still remember the good feeling, but I have no access and no longing. I can talk about it without a problem. Even joke about how much I liked it and afterward never give it a thought.
It is nice stuff though. In the beginning.

Thanks again for the toast. I don't talk about this much and it was nice to talk about it here.

Here's one for you :toast:

9. I used Oil of Oregano capsules when I had my root canal.
The root was extra strong so the Dentist had to work a little harder to kill the root.

Of course she wouldn't give me any pain pills, so I used Oil of Oregano.

13. It sounds like an absess, an infection around the root
Edited on Fri Mar-16-07 05:39 AM by Cobalt-60
You will only get so far with pain killers.
Your problem comes from the infection around the root.
I was clinging to the ceiling last time I had a tooth go.
Painkillers only went so far.
It was the effect of the Penicillin I scavenged on the abcess
that kept me from killing myself.

14. I have an abscess, myself.
Been in pain for a few weeks now. After seeing a dentist for a consultation I'm now on penVK. I take three over the counter Motrins for the pain.

The dentist, of course, is referring me to an oral surgeon for a root canal ($850.00 just for that). Then I go back to him for a bridge. No appointments set up though -- the insurance company goes over the treatment plan and decides what they'll pay, and then the appointments are made. I know I'm going to be in this for HUGH money. I may have to take out a second mortgage.

I understand and sympathize. I take my pain relievers every where I go. I would love one of those vicadins on root canal day.
:hi:

15. I am so sorry. I went through that a few months ago. . .
I had an extremely stubborn abcess that took 2 courses of antibiotics and 4 root canals to clear up. I know the money is a bitch, but you have to get that infection under control. It can be very dangerous.
