Cowell says he's bigger than Springsteen

NEW YORK (AP) -- Simon Cowell says he's bigger than The Boss. In an interview to air Sunday on CBS' "60 Minutes," the "American Idol" judge says he's worth five times more to Sony BMG than Bruce Springsteen.

"I sell more records than Bruce Springsteen, sure," Cowell says of the 57-year-old rocker, who signed a contract that was reported to be in the neighborhood of $100 million.

"I mean, in the last five years, I've probably sold over 100 million records. If (Springsteen) got one hundred (million dollars), I should have got five hundred (million dollars)," he says.

Cowell says he sells all those records because he's signed "the biggest artist on the planet" - Fox network's "American Idol."

"Every single `Idol' winner is now signed through Sony BMG," says Cowell. "And this applies to ... all the countries ... we sell `Idol' to, which is over 30 countries."

You know, he may be selling more albums right now with the mass-produced crap generated from that overhyped karaoke contest, but Bruce Springsteen has been putting out records for almost 30 years and trust me, 30 years from now everyone will still know who Bruce Springsteen is whereas your mass-produced crap generated from that overhyped karaoke contest will be the crap found at the bottom of the junk box in some unused closet while the folks who made that music will be fighting to see if they can get into VH1's Surreal House 39 or Celebrity Fit Club 35

1. Who's Simon Cowell? Come to think of it, who's this Springsteen person?
Ok, perhaps I jest. Everyone knows who Simon Cowell is.

3. As long as he doesn't imply that any of the artists he's signed is more significant than Springsteen

There's probably not a lot that's incorrect in his statement.

4. You have a valid point here
Decades from now people will still scream BBBBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE when they hear a Bruce Springsteen song. I highly doubt anyone will be screaming the names from someone from American Idol. The best thing these kids can do after their appearance on AI, whether they win it all or are the first booted, is to get a good, reliable financial manager to invest away any money earned so they won't be on bum row in 5 years when their name fades totally away

7. I thought this was a reference to his ass...
Because he's a tremendous ass if he thinks "he" has sold more rocords that anybody. It's the talent, you talentless twit!

6. He's comparing himself to the wrong type - Cowell's a promoter
so, he should be comparing himself to guys like Trump and Hugh Hefner, to whom Cowell is a bug. I mean, if he wants to think of it that way, he's nothing but a button on Rupert Murdoch's Boxers or a flea on Sumner Redstone's Dog.

10. YES!!!
Are you a Stern fan? Howard's been campaigning all week for people to vote for sanjaya since he's clearly the worst of this year's batch of "talent."

11. I got to listen to some of it this week. What a perfect way to belittle the "talent" on that show.

9. Cowell is part of the corporate world
Springsteen is an artist, everything Bruce does he owns and it's his own work product. Cowell just feeds off some kids who want a crack of fame. Cowell needs a reality check. Me thinks, they asked Springsteen to appear on Idol, or they wanted to use his songs and he said..No.
