City Commission Bans Sofas From Beach
<snip>

COCOA BEACH, Fla. -- If you were planning to take a sofa with you on your next trip to Cocoa Beach, forget it.

The city commission banned indoor furniture from the beach in an emergency measure Thursday night.

Commissioner Kevin Pruett introduced the issue after a larger-than-normal weekend crowd packed one area of the beach. Some people brought indoor furniture, such as upholstered sofas. Commissioners said large coolers filled with beer lead to underage drinking.

The commission voted unanimously for the measure, and the city will soon post signs.

Last year, the city banned beer kegs, raised fines for littering and installed trash cans and containers for cigarette butts.
