Before we moved, we had contacted DISH Network to have them give us a new satellite dish at our new house. They run those commercials all the time how you can just leave your dish at the old house and they'll just give you a new one at the new house, etc, etc. So, I called them up and had them scheduled to come over to our new house on Feb 28. Everything was all set. They said it was a $99 charge, but they would give us a rebate coupon for the entire amount the day we moved.
Because we had some problems with the movers, we had to reschedule DISH network for a few days later. When we called them up to reschedule, the rebate coupon seemingly disappeared. Never heard of that sort of service...
So, my wife, who argues over every last penny, decided to call up Direct TV to see what sort of offers they have. Since they had free installation and a special package for $49.99/month that included 4 TV hookup, DVR service, local channels and 3 months of Free HBO & Cinemax, we decided to use them for at least 6 months. We would then also get a $10/month rebate for 15 months, bringing the total down to a very reasonable $39.99/month.
We call up DISH network to cancel the service when we move out. Suddenly, they remembered the $99 rebate they forgot.
We decided to go with Direct TV for now (we can get the free installation on DISH if we wait 6 months and decide we don't like Direct TV
But, now we get our first bill from Direct TV and it is $59.99, and they tell us they had never given away 15 month coupons, and the package we have is $59.99/month.
It seems like just about everybody we deal with requires a big fight these days - banks, cell phone companies, etc.
