Poll question: Should I have another martini?
The first one was icy cold and delicious--Absolut with just a whisper of dry vermouth and three queen olives. Will I enjoy the second one even more? Or should I switch to red wine for the rest of the evening?

1. Don't be silly - of course you must have one more.
Then on to the wine if necessary, but never pass up the chance for that second martini.

5. Well, in the interest of total honesty, I don't approve of the vodka.
But when push comes to shove, we all must make allowances when we can.

Now, bottoms up!

3. Oh. A VODKA 'Martini'.
OK.
I won't get on your case.
Honest.

But MY Martinis are made with GIN.
That's all I'm sayin'.

Enjoy, and by all means, have another.
One drink alone is lonely.

4. If they're good enough for Bond (James Bond), they're good enough
for smoogatz. Besides, gin gives me a wicked hangover. It's flavored with juniper berries, you know--which are toxic.

10. AND, gin is Fightin' Whiskey.
Folks I know who are perfect ladies and gentlemen ordinarily can become quite pugilistic under the influence of demon Gin.

But I love the taste in an ice cold 'Tini.
I keep a pint in the freezer for when the mood hits.
I usually limit myself to two.
Once in a great while.

12. Oh yes.
It's dangerous stuff--almost a different drug altogether from mere alcohol. Mezcal's the same way. Love them both, but they don't love me.

21. Amen !
The local classy 'tini joint says I'm about one of two customers who still uses Gin. Of course, they've got about a hundred different blends for vodka. No thanks, some Beefeater is smooth enough

7. Martini is a name, so it's a Martini, not martini. Second, you didn't drink a Martini.
You drank a Vodka Martini.

Third, Vermouth is capitalized.

Fourth - and secondly of importance next to naming it properly as a Vodka Martini - YES! Of course have another! Only idiots stop at one, especially when it's still this early.

11. I'm a nationally published poet and my first novel is coming out from
a major publisher in August--AND I teach creative writing at the college level--but my dark secret is that I have no fucking clue how capitalization works in English. There, I said it. I feel so much better, I think I'll go shake up another. But should vodka be capitalized in "vodka Martini?" Vodka's a generic, not a proper noun.

14. Vodka is a generic, so normally just "vodka", but Vodka Martini is the name
of the drink, and so it is capitalized.

Same with, say, one can order a Rum and Coke or one can order Coke with some rum in it.

And don't worry - English is such a fucked up language, that even professional writers can't be expected to grok all of it. All we can do is pick the sections in which we want to excel, and let our editors worry about the rest.

:yourock:

Congrats on the novel!

16. Thanks--it's just a silly little mystery.
But loads of fun. And it pays better than poetry, god knows.

18. Are you listening to country music while you drive and operate
heavy machinery? That always makes me want another drink. That could make it dangerous.

24. how about the juice of 1/2 lemon, sugar or splenda to taste, a little water,
1 - 2 oz of vodka (Ketel One for me), stir until the sugar (or splenda) disolves...and then fill up with ice

I use about 4 packs of splenda and 4 ounces of water.
