Didn't Laettner hit another buzzer beater in a different game? I distinctly remember an NCAA Tournament game where Laettner was inbounding the ball at near mid-court. He inbouded the ball to a team-mate who immediately passed it back to him, then he hit a jumper to win the game. Was that a different game of the 1992 NCAA's?

on edit: Jesus Christ, was it really 15 years ago, Christ...

On another forum someone posted a topic asking about pleasant childhood memories, and that Duke-Kentucky game was actually the one I came up with.

I remember being so upset at the idea of Duke losing, but then the shot went in and man....I haven't been that excited many times in my life.

8. The greatest single play was the 1983 NC State winning dunk over Houston....
Houston started five future first round draft picks, and State was rated a double digit underdog going into the game.

Derek Whittenburg's long-range shot was grabbed by Lorenzo Charles and dunked as time ran out. Coach Jim Valvano ran onto the court looking for someone to hug.

It is run and re-run every year in the promos for the NCAA tournament.

10. Yes it is the Greatest play...
and in fact it was voted the Greatest NCAA game ever in an ESPN survey of coaches and sportswriters a few years ago.
You are also correct IIRC that there was another buzzer beater win by the Laettner Duke team, although mr liberty (who is in bed because he's working tomorrow) would have to tell me which one. He knows all those details like the back of his hand! I was not even a basketball fan at that time...I hadn't succumbed to the lure of college basketball as a religion in NC back then, having grown up in an area that wasn't a basketball mecca!

BTW, expect to get slammed - there are a lot of anti-Duke fans here, and they are rather loud right now - and some are quite rude!

I'm a Blue Devil fan - and happy to be one - because I married into it. My grandmother in law - who left a very rural area across the state for a career at a time when most women got married to farmers and had their kids really young - was one of the first nurses hired by Duke, and was a member of the Duke Nurses Corp during WWII; my MIL was a candy-striper there as a teenager and grew up very near the East Campus. mr liberty spent much of his youth playing and riding his bike around the campus. His grandmother always referred to it as "dear old Duke."

And then, Duke Medical Center saved my life when I was diagnosed with breast cancer (a VERY large mass, too) after 9 months of being misdiagnosed and patronized by my local doctors. I was and still am treated wonderfully by the staff at Duke. I can honestly say that everyone I encounter there is friendly and caring, even staff in the gift shops and cafeteria, and the people I encounter around the campus. I still go once a year for my cancer check-ups, (9 years cancer free so far!) and we usually spend the day there and go to the gardens, and/or visit Cameron Stadium (or as I like to say, worship at the House of Cameron and visit the Holy Relics!), and things like that. It's a bit of a drive, so we make the most of it.
