8. I know!! That's what I'm saying!
One of my favorite guitar players, too!!

As Noel Gallagher of Oasis says of Johnny Marr, "Even he can't play what he plays!"

14. No shit -- that's the funniest thing I have ever heard!!
Noel Gallagher couldn't even tune Johnny Marr's guitar -- much less play it.

22. In a world where Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson are able to make millions
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 09:33 AM by grace0418
on a album, I don't think popularity is an appropriate way to assess a band's musical abilities. And anyway, the Smiths still have legions of incredibly loyal fans to this day. Let's see about Oasis years down the road.

And proficiency? Well, besides thinking it's an odd way to describe a musical group, I find it difficult if not impossible to agree. Proficiency does not make you put a song on repeat for hours. Proficiency does not change how you think about the world. Proficiency does not become a soundtrack for a period of your life. You may like Oasis more, and you are entitled to you opinion. To me there is absolutely no contest. The Smiths are in my top 3 bands of all time and I feel their musicianship is probably the best of all my favorites.

26. People can only name two of the Smiths at most.
Nearly every rock fan can name all of the members of Oasis, including Zak Starkey.

28. Let's see how many people remember them 20 years after they break up.
Then we can talk. And I'm a rock fan but couldn't care less about Oasis. I only know the Gallaghers because they are always making news for some idiotic fight.

23. Level of Popularity.........
Does not equate to playing ability.

27. They are better at that too.
If you listen to "How Soon Is Now", you notice that the strumming is being done mechanically by some sort of effects box, because Johnny Marr did not know how to play like that.
