Seriously. I. Am. Done.
I have been cleaning my apartment for four days in preparation for the parents coming in this weekend for graduation. I thought I would be smart and clean a room a day and have a little bonus time on Saturday. They called last night and said they were two hours away and would be here by noon tomorrow. If I know them, they will be here by 10am.

I have bleached every surface in the bathroom. I have dusted every surface in the living room. I cleaned every stupid burner on the stove. I have even gone so far as to wash my walls. I didn't finish the kitchen floor and I didn't clean some of the appliances. I'm tired. I used all the elbow grease that I had. I want to go to sleep, but my body isn't responding.

So, it comes down to I really don't care if they notice any small detail that I missed. Hopefully, all the excitement will veil the things I didn't get done. The good news is they are staying at a hotel, so I can finish cleaning when they go to their room.

Thanks for letting me vent. I'm already ready for this visit to be over.

Now they will know you cleaned up for them and they will assume your place is always trashed unless they are coming over.

2. They are driving all the way from Texas.
And we always clean before they come no matter where we live. They keep an immaculate house. Me? Not so much. I like my house to feel "lived in".

I think cleaning the house is more for my husband than it is for them.

3. I thought you meant you were done with DU
and that would have been the straw that broke this camel's back. However, good for you! All is clean and bright, so get your ass in the kitchen and start cooking! :P

4. Hang in there. They will still love you even IF you have a dust bunny or two.
This is family. They love you enough to drive up from Texas to see you, thus they are not gonna be terribly worried about some stray speck of dust.

Look at it this way--maybe if they DO manage to find some stray speck of dust THEY will clean it up FOR you! Let them help and love them for wanting to do it!!!

Relax and have a great visit!!!

9. That's a great idea.
Leave it for them to clean.

My husband said he was going to turn the tables on his parents and send them home with all the crap we don't want just like they do to us. I thought it was a good strategy, and if you have parents that try to pawn their crap off on you, then you understand.

7. Leave something glaring for them to focus on
like a full size picture of an ex naked and they'll never notice all the little things left un done
