New species of leopard discovered

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - The clouded leopard of Borneo _ discovered to be an entirely new species _ is the latest in a growing list of animals and plants unique to the Southeast Asian country's rainforest and underscores the need to preserve the area, conservationists said Thursday.

Genetic tests by researchers at the U.S. National Cancer Institute revealed that the clouded leopard of Borneo and Sumatra islands is a unique cat species and not the same one found in mainland Southeast Asia as long believed, said a statement by WWF, the global conservation organization.

I think leopards are the coolest animals on the planet.

3. Is is possible in the leopard family or any of the endangered

species to cross reproduce to save the species? The reason I ask is that we have so many on the endangered list and so many new ones coming along that it makes me wonder if they are doing that to save their species in some way.

In any case, it's great to see a new species of cat come along. I love the big cats as well as the three domestic short haired cats that let me live with them now. :loveya:
