What did everyone think? I was a bit dissapointed. I had heard that it was one of those movies where when the end comes you want to watch it again to see what you missed. But I thought the twist regarding Christian Bale's character was obvious from the get go (Fallon too obviously was wearing a disguise and never spoke), and the twist regarding Hugh Jackman's character turned the movie into science fiction. It wasn't a bad movie by any means but I thought it would have been more like the movie the Illusionist where all the twists and turns and tricks had plausible explanations that you just had to figure out based off of clues in the movie. In this one the one twist was obvious, and the other twist was a cop out since if the explanation is supernatural then you don't have to really explain anything.

I don't want to give the impression that I hated it since it was beautifully directed and well acted by all involved. I just don't like when seemingly non sci fi movies use a sci fi twist as a cop out to wrap everything up.

1. I felt taken.
The only question I had was:

Did the Michael Caine character know about the Fallon character from the get-go or not?

I agree with you about the "over the top" sci-fi Tesla CRAP, too.

The other "magic" movie, the "Illusionist" is almost as bad, using the last
TWO MINUTES, I KID you NOT, to explain everything that went before (like you
CARE by this time....)

Both are beautifully shot period pieces, though, and I thought "The Prestige" was
the better acted.

2. I'd seen The Illusionist before The Prestige, and loved The Prestige
because of it. The Il was a slap in the face, they must think we're all idiots. The way Jackman's character was offed every trick was intense, and having Tesla in was a neat part imo.
