Poll question: Cigars Anyone
Just curious as to the DU take on cigars.

Also, feel free to recommend any favorites. I am currently smoking an Arturo Fuente cubanito.

1. I smoke cigarettes, but I never could get into cigars
I'd go with chewing tobacco before cigars if I had to give up my Marlboro Menthol Lights.

2. I like Cigars
its been a while since I had one. I used to work at Davidoff of Geneva and got familiar with different types of cigars.

My personal favorite is the Ashton line, its very creamy and smooth.

3. On rare occasions
I've smoked a cigar. I have to be in the mood for it, which I'm usually not. So maybe 1 cigar every year or two on average.

I also prefer Ashtons. They don't have that stereotypical cigar stink, and don't burn my throat.

4. Punch will never do you wrong
Cigars are a handmade product, and subject to the vagaries of human handwork, but two very reliable brands are Punch and Macanudo.

Macanudo is THE most consistently good handmade cigar in the entire world. Even the Cubans can't touch Macanudo for uniformity. It's also the most popular handmade cigar in the world. Unfortunately, Macanudo ain't exactly the most robust cigar in the world. This makes it excellent for things like wedding receptions where cigars will be smoked by people who haven't smoked cigars before. You can give someone who's never smoked a cigar before a Macanudo with assurance they're going to survive the experience.

If you're looking for a smoke that is nearly as reliable as the Macanudo, but that a veteran smoker will like, try Punch. I like the Rare Corojos, but they're rare for a reason: Corojo-seed leaf (Villazon, who makes Punch cigars in the Dominican Republic, only calls a leaf Corojo if it was grown on El Corojo Vega, the plantation where it was developed...and El Corojo Vega is in Cuba.) is a bitch to work with. The Cubans no longer grow El Corojo seed as it's too susceptible to black shank mold and blue mold--two MAJOR killers of tobacco plants in Cuba--and everyone else finds it a fragile, perishable leaf that must be handled with special care if you want to get some of it around cigars.

5. Macs are good. I also dig a Romeo Y Julieta Cubana
I have found that the few Punch that I have tried had a tough draw and went out on me.
I guess you get what you pay for.

9. I have to disagree, Macanudo
taste horrible. I never bought into the Macanudo hype. Every time I tried one, to see if I could like it, I just couldn't handle the taste. Punch is a stronger cigar but it taste good for the price.

the beauty of liking a cigar, everyone has their taste, literally. :)

7. Friends of mine are WAY into fancy cigars.
I smoke maybe two or three a year--and always regret it the next day. It's the inverse of what Oscar Wilde said about writing: I love smoking, I hate having smoked.

8. Used to, once in a while.
It was a macho thing, I guess.
Way back when macho was cool.

I also chewed tobacco when I was playing high school baseball.
It was just what you DID.

Now I just like demon filthy pariah CIGARETTES.
And now I'm an outcast.
oh well....
