Good and bad sporting news for Ireland on St. Patrick's Day
Edited on Sat Mar-17-07 06:11 PM by muriel_volestrangler
Bad news: Ireland didn't win the 6 Nations rugby - France won it, by scoring with the last play of their match against Scotland. Irony: the final adjudication on TV replay was made by an Irish referee.

Good news: Ireland are beating Pakistan at cricket. This is astounding - Pakistan are number 4 in the world, and Ireland aren't even all full-time professionals. It's close though - and will be over in the next half hour at most. Ireland are chasing 128 , and are 117 for 7.

The Guardian has someone live-blogging it here: http://sport.guardian.co.uk/cricket/overbyover/story/0,,2036426,00.html

Of course, most Irish-related people are out drinking at the moment, so they won't see this till it's too late.

Update: Ireland have won! Despite rapidly fading light, the captain hit a six to completely overhaul Pakistan. This means Pakistan have failed to reach the second round of the World Cup. This could have political effects, people - seriously (Bangladesh beat India today, and with elections coming up soon, a 'feelgood' effect is possible).
