Peter Asher went on to produce most of the fine albums that James Taylor gave us.

Asher also played a role in shaping the mellow California rock sound prominent during the 1970s, producing records for Linda Ronstadt, J.D. Souther, Andrew Gold and Bonnie Raitt. In the 1980s, Asher also worked on hit albums for artists as diverse as Cher and 10,000 Maniacs.

5. One of my friends a long time ago went though this

so I was warned about it. He'd modeled for a Four Freshman LP (not even stereo) cover when he was young and pretty. They did a gig in town when I knew him in his 40s and he made the mistake of going.

"My gawd! They need to rename themselves The Four Geezers! Oh, honey! Do I look like that?"

He was depressed for a solid week.

I avoid PBS when they're begging. I supported them for decades, but these days they'd have more luck prying cash out of me if they continued their regular programming during begging season. Those old 60s and 70s groups are just too painful to watch.

but I liked Chad and Jeremy better. Saw Jeremy Clyde on a PBS historical drama-he was King Charles I--and frankly I'm glad I saw him that way--I could say the age was all due to makeup!

9. I purchased my first 45 in 1957

Use to listen to WLS Chicago and WLAC Nashville flame throwers at night on the tube-type radio. Later got one of those fancy little Zenith transistor radios. Went to hootenannies in the early 1960s. Remember watching the Beatles first appearance with Ed Sullivan on the old black and white TV. Went on spring break to Florida and listened to The Swingin'Medallions' "Double Shot".

16. I used to listen to WLS every night while doing my homework.

Those AM stations came in loud and clear over long distances after dark. Also got hooked on Wolfman Jack on XERF out of Mexico, although my parents didn't like it much. My dad had an old Silvertone radio that looked something like this:



On ours, however, the turntable was in a pull out drawer and there was storage for 78's below.

35. I listened to WLS too

I was in a suburb 20 miles west of chicago and had an old tube radio that could pull in stations far away .

I had homework , but I also had my guitar ready for the latest Beatles or stones song to come on so I could learn them .

They used to play the new tunes well before the records were out .

I somehow get a bit depressed now looking back on those days .

I can still smell that old tube radio .

Tears are now running in the lines that now trace from my eyes down my face. I have been seeing so many of these pictures of what "we" all look like now and it is really freaky isn't it?

22. The other night I watched a little bit of a Motown

Nostlagia Concert on PBS. The groups (which I loved back in the day) mostly looked like refugees from a nursing home and were literally bursting out of their flashy, sequined suits --- like sausage meat popping out of its casing. Several of the lead singers offered brief tributes to the original, but now retired or DEAD former members of the groups. Worst of all, when the camera panned on the enthralled audience, it was a bunch of aging, old-fart boomers (just like me) smiling ridiculously, sort of half dancing, half twitching, half having a fit in their seats, trying to bring back the 60's while bopping along arthritically in their seats with the oldsters singing the old tunes onstage. The realization that these were my peers, and I undoubtedly looked just as old and goofy, was a break-out-the-Prozac-and-Vodka-Frappuccino-moment. I felt like a dinosaur and was almost praying for the asteroid to come hurtling down from space and put me out of my misery.

*snort* an apt description. Now I know why my kids look at me funny when they come home for break and find me "dancing" around to some "oldie". I always thought I was cool, I still have my fringe jacket after all. I no longer put myself through those shows, they make me crazy. Never tried Prozac-and-Vodka-Frappuccino, sounds like a great idea. I might add some Geritol to mine though, it makes it easier to get out of bed in the morning.

30. Went to my 45th class reunion with an old high school pal and as we

approached the dining room where the reunion was to be held, girlfriend turns to me, honest to God, and says "this can't be it, there's old people in there!!" I swear to God I almost couldn't make it in the door for laughing so hard. Yeah, it sucks, but thank God we're still here to grouch about it...lol.

There was so much great music back then. I wasn't a teenager yet but yeah I loved the British Invasion and the Americans too. My first "rock" concert was The Righteous Brothers.

Peter's sister Jane Asher was a redheaded model who dated Paul McCartney, and I was JEALOUS like a few million other girls. Lennon & McCartney wrote some of P & G's hits.

47. I passed on this show last night.

Ever since I saw Dan Fogelberg and was totally shocked. It does make one start feeling one's age.

Watching The Last Waltz even makes me weep for the younger days.
