Ok-Crucify me- I loved "Borat"
I just got the DVD-and laughed my ass off...it was great..especially the part where the (obviously) southern repubs were taken aback.

1. I haven't seen it, but it looks extremely funny!
Is Newt Gingrich in that movie? There was somebody who looks just like him whose wife gets insulted by Borat in the commercial. I just got done watching the unrated Jackass 2 DVD! Pretty crazy stuff.

9. There is a guy in it who looks very much like Gingrich, but it isn't him.
It's a Gingrich-esque southern upper-crust guy, who looks like Newt, but it's not the real Newt. He's at a dinner party with Borat. However, republicans Bob Barr and Alan Keyes do appear in the film briefly, as themselves, in short interviews with Borat.

4. do you mind crossing your feet?
we only brought three nails . . .

It cracked me up too. The dinner party scene, the hotel wrestling scene, the ice cream truck . . .

5. "my moustache still smells like your testes"
whether someone likes borat is a good litmus test.

6. We watched it yesterday and I thought it was very entertaining.
I'm just wondering how much of it was staged and how much of it was "real."

10. It wasn't even a knock against Southern Repubs.
According to Cohen's NPR interview, that's where the Americans most polite enough to tolerate him lived, and were therefore the best on camera.

New York? Funny for about five minutes. Fuck you, foreigner. I'm not going to kiss your cheek, I'm not going to watch you evacuate your bowels, and I really just don't give a shit if your chicken's loose. And it's funny, because that's what NY is like: I could chase a chicken through the NY subway and nobody'd say a word. Just another day.

The South, ironically, was the only place in America that was tolerant enough to tolerate Borat for more than a few minutes at a time.

18. Well, he also said
that the south was the region of the country where the fewest number of people knew who he was. Too many people in NY had seen his show on HBO to make his material work.
