5. What are they made of?
Baking soda is a big help in some cases. Fill 'em up and let them sit for a few days.

If washable, might consider THAT ;) Vinegar added to wash water is actually a good stink remover and kills wee tiny microscopic critters (Don't wanna say it's anti-bacterial, but...)

Is it from your feet or something on the shoes?

9. OK, VAT of baking soda and see a doctor abour your feet
Might have some sort of infection that needs looking at.

Or... your feet are too hot in those shoes. Change socks to something cooler, better wicking. Check places with good gear for runners. All socks are NOT created equal.

Seriously, wear something else for a couple days or paint some stripes on your feet and pretend you have sandals! Those shoes prolly need a good drying out. Baking soda and time can be a big help.

Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 01:38 PM by Breeze54
There are also 250,000 sweat glands in your feet.
Your feet usually smell more than your body, because
of your socks and shoes. So the sweat can't escape,
which causes the foot to smell...

Tips

There are a lot of tricks to stop the smell, but the most common trick is to wash your feet
at least 2 times a day especially after sports or any other physical activities.
Other tricks are: Soak your socks in a mix of water and salt. Once they're dry, put them on.
Change your socks and your shoes a couple of times a day (if the smell is really bad!).
Mix 456 mL of alcohol with 36 mL of formaldehyde (a disinfectant that you can buy at your
local pharmacy than apply to the foot with a Q-tip, repeat this twice a week for one month.
A really cool trick, is to wash your feet in "Colgate" toothpaste, it really works (we've tried)!!!
If nothing works for you and your really stuck, ask your doctor or nearest pharmacy for advice.

Why do our feet stink?

How to Get Rid of Shoe Odor

http://www.howtogetridofstuff.com/odor-removal/how-to-get-rid-of-shoe-odor/

Taking the ‘Eeeww’ out of ‘Shoe’

Shoe Odor Removal: Home Remedies

If ‘kicking off your shoes’ at the end of a long day magically clears the room
(and that’s a bad thing), we’ve got some easy, home remedies to get rid of your
home-made shoe cheese. It’s important to remember that you’re not just combating
a smell, you’re also combating living bacteria that produce the smell – if you
just attack the odor and leave the bacteria then you’ve only fought half the battle.
Kill the bacteria and then remove the odor. Here are some easy ways to do just that:

* When you remove your shoes for the evening, coat the insides thoroughly with baking soda,
seal them in a plastic bag, and put them in the freezer until morning. The cold will kill
the bacteria, and the baking soda will absorb the odor. When you pull them out, set them
in a well ventilated area for a while to dissipate any excess moisture that remains.

* If you don’t have room in your freezer, pour or spray just enough rubbing alcohol into
your shoes to coat the insides and then place them on their sides in a well ventilated
(but unpopulated) area. The rubbing alcohol will kill the bacteria and evaporates quickly.
Afterwards, coat the insides with a little baking soda to soak up any remaining odor or moisture.

* If these methods leave you in the lurch, experiment with different products
(usually powders and sprays) that are designed to eliminate foot and shoe odor.

Remember, it’s all about the bacteria! Keeping your feet and shoes dry will prevent it from
growing, and cold or

alcohol will kill it off quickly.

Good luck!! ;)

You might be able to wash those in a washing machine with some non-chlorine bleach (for colors) and have them come through that and the dryer okay.

Edit: No, wait, steel toes. You'll have to handscrub the boots so as not to rust the metal.

11. What is that spray they use at the Bowling Alley?
Maybe something like that?? Lysol spray might hurt leather--but you could maybe get by with Febreze inside the shoes--I dunno.

I'd suggest that you might want to fill up a sock with Baking Soda and put it inside the shoes when your feet are not in there.

Good luck, Stinky!

16. Febreze cures all. I've never used it on shoes, but I bet it would
work pretty well.

Have to let it dry a little while, though.

Also, make sure you always wear breathable cotton socks.

21. Pee on your feet.
Think I'm kidding?http://www.peoplespharmacy.com/archives/herb_home_remedy_qa/urine_is_simple_cure_for_smelly_feet.asp
But, you do have to get rid of the smell in your shoes. Someone on this People's Pharmacy website recommended wiping the inside of your shoes with rubbing alcohol on a paper towel.
Also, it's best to have at least two pairs of shoes and alternate wearing them to let them dry out.
Anti-bacterial/fungal sprays are available for the inside of shoes.
You could get a deodorant stone at a natural foods store:

and rub it on your feet.
Here's another People's Pharmacy clip:
Q. I had a problem with sweaty, smelly feet in my late teens. My aunt told me to go to the drug store and get some tannic acid powder. I did so and added it to warm water for soaking my feet. After several nights, the problem disappeared and has not come back since. I am now 89 years old.

A. Dermatologists have told us that soaking feet in a tannic acid solution (strong tea) can help control excessive sweating and foot odor. Use five tea bags in a quart of water and let steep for 10 minutes. Once it cools, soak feet for half an hour.

yup, roll up newspaper and stick them into the shoes for a few days. Then everytime you take them off.

The key, in addition to all afore mentioned things like washing your feet more, is switching footwear. You can't wear the same shoes every day, dude.

27. If all else fails, here's a plan:
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 04:25 PM by sammythecat
1) wear black rayon/polyester socks with your shoes.
2) leave shoes and socks on for 5 days. Don't take them off.
3) work hard. In a boiler room.
4) by now you should be willing to ditch the aforementioned "expensive Lugz".
5) by new shoes and cotton socks
6) soak feet in basin of Clorox and ascetic acid for 1 hour before and after wearing new shoes
7) try to renew shattered friendships.
8) Rock on.

Rover not to do that again. :P

No, seriously, baking soda works. Douse them with baking soda and treat your feet for whatever funky stuff is growing on them before sticking them back in there. Also, a scented panty liner will work, but my mother is the only person I know with the intestinal fortitude to shut anyone up who dares to laugh at her for it.
