As God and BenBen are my witnesses, I WILL
spend this coming week working and not DUing (so much). I make this resolution every Sunday and by Monday morning I've already failed. Not this week.

Does anybody else worry that this really IS an addiction? Maybe Skinner is brainwashing us?...

2. Really? Because I really, really can't.
I had to get home last night to post on DU. When I wake up I pour my coffee and go to DU. I recently had a dream, not about a DUer (that too) but about DUing here in my livingroom.

3. I Don't Know About Skinner Brainwashing Us
hell, I prolly need a brainwashing

internet addiction is a real phenomenon

I've raced home, missed lunch to get on DU, raced back to work.

it is addictive to be in an unreal environment that is controlled and a fantasy.

Here's a link to a book called "Craving for Ecstasy" talks about process addictions- as having similarities to substance addictions. The greatest pharmacy ever in existence is in our brain. All pharmaceuticals are basically substances that will work on our neuronal receptor sites. One cannot have a receptor site for something that doesn't occur naturally, and if it comes from the outside and makes us feel good, it changes our brain chemistry (heroin for example) if it is a "process" like gambling, sex, internet, intrigue, love, romance, etc. it can be as addictive to some people as a drug.

From the Back Cover
Alcohol, Tobacco, Sex, Food. . . Escape the Pleasure Trap and Regain Control of Your Life!

Addictive behavior goes far beyond the compulsive use of drugs and alcohol. It is possible to become addicted to what may seem a harmless pleasure such as sex, jogging, watching television, and eating. In this powerful book—written in easy-to-understand language—two scientific researchers, Harvey Milkman and Stanley Sunderwirth, explain the biology, chemistry, and psychology of the universal desire for pleasure and escape. For example, they reveal how the brain produces "mind-altering" substances and what the skydiver has in common with the heroin addict. But, most importantly, with the use of a self-assessment test and an invaluable guide for treatment, the authors show what steps you can take to regain control of your life.

I'm sort of abnormal in the flicks department and I'd hate to put something out there that didn't work for you. Rent it first.

22. Okay, then I'm happy you returned home intact.
Usually it's not a great idea to go out on a night when one is supposed to have fun, because even fun seems less so. Why was it weird? Or, you don't have to tell me, of course.

I can go days at a time without coming here. I don't even turn on my computer every day.

I don't understand the addiction to the internet thing at all.

8. Some People Don't Understand Any Addiction
if you've never had an addiction, then it doesn't make sense

i don't understand diabetes, except that people get it, they don't ask for it, and it can control their lives if they don't manage it well.

Now i don't know about the internet addiction being an addiction, but i also realize that asking the question on the internet is a bit like asking the question of crack addicts in a crack house, is crack addictive?

10. I do understand some addictions
because I've had them. Nicotine addiction was the worst, so far.

I just think of the internet as a distraction more than an addiction.

18. For Most People That Is True
the idea of "process addictions", that our brain is the best pharmaceutical company around really and can produce over 200 neuropharmacuetical chemicals... some come with excitement, some with fantasy, and some with satiation.

gambling, and adrenalin junkies are sometimes truly addicted to it.

so, mebbe it is hard to understand, i don't understand.

i'm glad you can put it down so to speak

i do think there are some who can't

not to be snarky either! ;)

23. I have to clean the house
I have four days to make this pigsty presentable for house guests. I'm tired just thinking about it and my slacker ass just wants to lie in bed and read books. :P

I think I got my Lounge addiction down to where I'm more of a social poster. I can limit myself to only a few posts a day now. I'm CURED! Hallelujah! Let go and let god...oh wait I'm agnostic and this ain't no 12-step meeting!

Even the fuckin' donuts are stale and the coffee tastes like piss...DAMN IT.

I'm outta here...
