I'm referring to the as at the top of the page for this American Life. Somehow radio announcers never look like I expect them to. Even the car guys' pictures look reversed; Ray sounds like he should look like Tom and Vice versa. At least Sylvia Poggioli is really as gorgeous as she sounds!

2. I never expected a suit and tie. |

Somehow I envisioned a Van Dyke beard, also.

5. I knew what he looked like, so the pic didn't surprise me. A few years ago |

McSweeney's did this great show with They Might Be Giants where several different McSweeney's authors and contributors read pieces which were then juxtaposed with TMBG music. It was like they designed the whole show to appeal to my sensibilities or something. The wonderful John Hodgman ("PC" in the PC vs. Mac ads) was the MC and Ira Glass also did a piece.
The first thing Ira said when he stepped on stage was "I'm Ira Glass and this is what I look like." For some reason, I don't know if it was his tone or just the atmosphere, but the entire audience broke into hysterics at that.
What an awesome night.

8. I'm going to see Ira this weekend; shall I pass your messages along? |
|
I'm hosting a reception for him after a live performance Saturday night here in Michigan. I've met him before; he's a very nice guy. And really excited about the TV thing although I'm a little skeptical of how that will do. I prefer the pictures I create from the radio stories.
That was one of the things I really disliked about MTV when it came out; the videos began overshadowing the music. I prefer it the other way around, especially if the video is not how I imagined the situation in the song to be.

From his voice and the way he broadcasts, I thought he was younger...like college age or 22 or something. He looks a lot more authoritative than he sounds.
