Kill the Eisbär!

Knut Should Be Killed, Say Some Animal Activists
Berlin's polar bear cub Knut is more famous than ever. Even star photographer Annie Leibovitz has been to take his picture. But not everyone loves the little bear. Animal rights activists want him put to sleep because he has been raised on a bottle.

Everyone loves Knut. The three-month-old polar bear born in one of Berlin's zoos has become a star in the German capital and has won hearts the world over. Indeed, the exact date of his first public appearance -- likely to be made later this week -- is the subject of almost as much anticipation as the details of Britney Spears Alcoholics Anonymous love affair. It's impossible not to love the little guy, right?

1. Maybe they can have a lottery...
the winner gets to blow the bear's head off with a 20-ought-six

2. Wait, they're animal rights activists and they want to kill the bear
I appreciate that it's not natural for humans to feed the animal (since the mother rejected feeding it) but why would you kill the bear? I mean, it's living in a zoo so it's already living in an unnatural environment. And the activists are worried that bottle feeding the bear is unnatural.

6. If the animal was in severe pain or facing certain death I could appreciate it
But that little teddy polar bear looks awfully adorable and quite healthy - why should it be slaughtered?

Shut down all the zoos (including petting zoos) first. Sell some animal postcards, they're nice and not harmful.

9. That beast
will chew your face off as soon as look at you. Don't be lulled into a false sense of hugability. What're you, Swiss or something?

11. That bear
will be left alone from me, rest assured. Unfortunately, he's in a zoo.

10. You get lemons, you make lemonade.
Our local zoo has a baby elephant born here. He has a HUGE fan club, gets regular press coverage, the kids (and adults) flock to see him and are educated about the animals and learn an appreciation for them. The accomodations have been upgraded, the elephants are VERY well-cared for... As much as I would rather they had a natural environment, WE HUMANS are their fiercest predator. Were it not for baby M.'s impression on all those children who see him, who would grow up to care?

12. I couldn't agree more...
I've learned so much from zoos and aquaria. They do much good.
