Funny thing is when I got old enough to actually rope on my own I was taught tied hard! Never knew how dangerous that was until I was an adult. I still don't dally very well. What am I saying? I haven't roped or had a horse I could rope off of in years. It's all about the squeeze chutes, baby!
Here is how old I am - I learned to team rope when the horses were both on the same side of the steer chute! My Grampa was pretty good (lifetime PRCA - from back when rodeo was actual ranch skills and not a pro sport) and built his own arena in the 60's- he and his partner used to alternate Sundays and everybody from around here used to come and rope on Sunday afternoons for 25 cent pots. Good times. Somewhere I have another B & W shot of me as a teen ropin in my 'hippy' attire - huge bell bottoms and a headband. Man. I need to find that one - next rainy day, maybe.
