10. My first car was a 1960 Volkswagen
No gas gauge, I kept track of mileage, or when it sputtered a bit I had to kick a lever to switch to the one gallon reserve tank.
I'm glad the speed limit on freeways was 55, I didn't hold up traffic too badly!
This isn't mine, I just like the photo-

Great summer car, not so good in the winter. Feeble heater, below a certain temp you had to carry a co-pilot to man the scraper, so you could see where you were going. Incredible traction though, Beetles never got stuck in the snow. They just froze up on you.

31. Very cool car I agree.
I don't drive it much in the summer, it is purely a "pleasure" vehicle. Although winters here, in South Carolina, are not cold, so I do drive it some in the winter. Looking forward to the spring and summer to drive it more. I have had it for a few years. Bought it in tip top shape.

24. A '36 MG
Rather like this one:

It was at the Christie's auction at the Pebble Beach Concours d' Elegance in 1995. I was with a non-profit group hired to drive the cars onto the platform where the bidding took place. I also drove a '48 Cadillac V-12 (so quiet you couldn't tell it was running), a '53 Mercedes sedan and a '72 Ferrari GT-4 once owned by Mel Blanc. (There were five or six Ferraris from Blanc's collection; the one in front of me was the one driven by Raul Julia in "Gumball Rally." If I remember correctly, the one I drove went for $440,000.)

It was our family's "kids car" when I was in high school. I drove it from 1980 to 1983 or so.

It took leaded gas, so at the time, it was actually cheaper to fuel. It got horrible mileage, however. It did have pick-up and a huge engine. I drove that thing all over Grand Rapids and the surrounding areas.

1 and 1/2 ton truck. It was an old WWII military truck originally, we used it for a hay truck on the farm. I learned to drive in it.

It had a 4 speed unsynchronized transmission and a manual 2-speed rear axle, so there were 2 sticks in the floor. It was a pretty cool old truck to drive, took a lot of work to manage.

55. Does a US Army 1949 2 1/2 ton Truck count????
It was ONLY 30 years old when I was driving it in the late 1980s. Sometime in the mid-1980s my National Guard unit had me drive it from Pittsburgh to Ft Indian town Gap and back. Later the same year it was towed back to the Gap where its Gasoline Engine was replaced by a Diesel (also new Transmission, still a Manual five Speed).

It was great when I went to fuel it in Bedford a Major pointed to the other 2 1/2 ton trucks and I had to yell at him I was a Mo-Gas job and had to follow the Jeeps, he just acknowledge I was in the Right lane after all.
