DU opinion needed--- What is the healthiest fruit to eat on the planet?
I'm a big smoothie fan and want to use only the healthiest fruits for my drink.

8. Grapefruit can be dangerous if you're taking certain kinds of medicine
It has some enzyme that prevents metabolism of the drugs so they accumulate to toxic levels in the body

11. It's actually the opposite
oddly enough. It causes increased metabolism which dramatically increases the amount of biologically active drug.

Same basic idea, though.

15. We're both wrong
The enzyme is in the liver:

Karch, an expert on drug interactions, explains that grapefruit juice is one of the foods most likely to cause problems with drugs, because it is metabolized by the same enzyme in the liver that breaks down many drugs. The cytochrome P-450 3A4 enzyme breaks down grapefruit juice into useful components for body, just like it breaks down dozens of medications. Karch says when the system is overloaded, the grapefruit juice can "swamp" the system, keeping the liver busy and blocking it from breaking down drugs and other substances.

6. All fruits have different health benefits. Berries are very good, full of
antioxidants and fiber, same with pomegranate. Mango has fiber and vitamin A. Bananas have potassium. Citrus has vitamin C. The best thing to do is mix it up, try different combinations so you get a mix of different benefits.

7. Is 100 percent pomegranate just as good as the fruit itself?

25. Are you asking if the juice is as good as the fruit?
I am assuming that's what you meant. The answer is no. The fruit has fiber and vitamin content that is not present in the juice. It's always better to start with whole fruit than to start with juice. Having said that, juice (as long as it's 100% and not full of sugar, etc.) is better than nothing. So if you add a splash to a smoothie that already has a lot of whole fruits, that's good too.

10. I cheat on my smoothie but I use
sunny d as a base
frozen mixed fruit *peaches, mandarin oranges, strawberries and pineapple*
a squeeze of creme coconut (coco lopez)
a banana
a handful of blueberries

the mixed fruit freezes the rest when it is whipped up. It tastes like fruit punch

23. bananas and broccoli
according to my husband...and according to his grandmother who lived to 98, one can live on broccoli and bananas. Bananas are good, but I have to have my broccoli with sauce and/or rice!
