Really, really creepy. The look on Locke's father face was priceless.

36. Was the woman who escorted Locke to that closet the one...
who recruited the blonde woman who was dealing with Jack? Apparently this was all the talk around my wife's office.

I would assume that he is really there. I think the secret is that they have a fountain of youth

44. Do you mean the daughter of Alex?
Alex is the kind of crazy lady who semi tortured Sayid in the jungle during the first season. The girl is about 16 and that is her daughter. Henry is the father.

4. It's a shame people are too impatient to watch this show.
They're missing some of the best television ever made because they couldn't wait a few weeks to get a few answers. A damn pity.

6. To be fair, much of the first half of this season was unnecessary.
The episodes could have been edited more tightly. And I think the writers lost focus and tried to introduce too many new and unnecessary people. (Those two new people I don't remember).

In the second half, the writers finally started to bring things together. Lost became comfortable in its own shifty skin again, rather than trying to introduce crap new characters or focus heavily on Jack, Kate, and Sawyer without giving the (in my opinion) much more interesting characters on the beach notice.

I think the writers improved the show and brought back a lot of the humor that was lacking in the first half. I loved Sawyer's "who the hell are you" comment.

16. I disagree completely.
For one, I've read the two new people will serve a major purpose by the end of the season. For another, i'm not sure how you get to the point we're at without the first half of the season.

The simple truth is that if you're telling a story of this magnitude, you can't help but have some slower parts. That's certainly the case with any long major movie or any of the longer classic works of literature. You couldn't possibly cut very much from the first part of this season and still have the whole work make sense.

I do agree they lost their sense of humor for a while, and that Hurley episode was sorely needed. I think that's an unfortunate side effect of ABC's choice to split up the show into two "sub-seasons" they way they did. The writers clearly had a lot to say in the first part of the season, as season two had waaaaaaay too many cliffhangers to just leave flapping in the wind, so I don't think there was a lot of room for humor in that first 6 episodes. ABC has hopefully learned their lesson and will run the entire season from beginning to end next year.

Finally, do you not remember some of the more mundane parts of Seasons 1 and 2? You probably don't because they're a lot more important in retrospect. The writers are very good. If you learn something seemingly unimportant now, chances are good that it'll come back into play at some point in the future.

23. The sci-fi crap was getting distracting, and I was losing interest
as a result. I know the producers have said that the entire story has been planned well out in advance, but it seems like they've gotten the hint that lots of hardcore viewers were slowly slipping away. The last few episodes have been excellent, and I'm feeling the kind of anticipation for the next episode that I haven't felt since Season 1...

24. Sorry. I do not worship at the altar of the Lost writers.

:P

I am entitled to my opinion, as you are yours. There was an energy to season one and season two that was lacking in the first half of this season. The humor, the suspense, and the intrigue were gone. There was the survival theme of season one and the thriller/killing element of season two. Instead, we see now hour long stretches of what could have been addressed in far less time.

I'm not saying that was was covered in the first half was entirely irrelevant (although Juliet, Niki, and Paolo are unnecessary). I'm saying that they could have shortened the endless sketches of Sawyer getting fish biscuits to add more of what made the show interesting in the first place. The humor and the interesting ensemble cast. (though some of the others - notably Mr. Friendly - are interesting additions).

You are correct about the format. Lost should run 24-style. Start in January and run for 24 episodes. I would be more forgiving of crap Kate episodes (we get that she's a runner. what's new?) and stupid Jack episodes (do we need tattoos to tell us Jack's a pretender?), if they were followed by more interesting Sayid, Locke, Hurley, or even Vincent episodes. :)

The thing that I dislike about Lost, its writers, and its hardcore fans is that any concerns or criticisms of the show are seen as being intellectually lazy or impatient. I'm not impatient at all, but I do think that the show could have been edited more tightly and included a more rich storyline without even rushing the plot.

43. The thing is, the show comes and goes.
Its asking an awful lot of an audience to maintain a high level of detailed interest when a show comes on for a few weeks with intensity, then disappears for months, then comes back. Lots of backstory, then a couple weeks of adventure, characters who we get attached to who have backstory and are then disposed of... its a lot to ask of an audience.

14. Great ending!
I spent the whole show fuming over the fact that Locke's sleazy, murderous father kept getting away with his cons. And then that ending! However, if his father is really there I still don't think Locke will give him his just desserts.

This episode did feel like it was getting the plot back on track.

:bounce:

OK, does anyone else think that Locke's father is the con-artist that caused the death of Sawyer's parents? That's my theory....

I've been thinking this for a while, only because of the "con man" connection. I can't imagine the writers having two con men in the backstory without a reason.
