Petco employee hit by car while trying to rescue duck
http://www.katu.com/news/6672817.html

LYNNWOOD - A would-be shoplifter, a surprised woman, a dropped duck, a speeding car, a Good Samaritan, and a heroic rescue of the duck combined to leave a woman with a severely injured ankle Friday morning.

It all began when a 39-year-old woman drove with a 35-year-old male friend to the Petco store on Alderwood Mall Parkway in Lynnwood around 9:30, said Lynnwood Police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions. The woman got out with her pet duck and went inside the store.

Meanwhile, the man got out and went into the nearby Linens and Things store and stole an accessory for an iPod, Sessions said.

Store security went after the man, who then darted for his car. Just as his woman friend was coming out of the Petco with the duck, she saw the man race into the driver's seat and try to get away.

Not knowing what was going on, she ran to the car to try to stop him, but the open driver's side door knocked her and her duck down as the man backed up the car.

A Petco employee saw the entire ordeal and ran over to try to save the wandering duck, but just then the man sped forward and struck the employee, severely injuring her ankle.

3. It sounds like a new Aflac commercial just wrote itself!
I hoope she's going to be okay...at least it doesn't sound like the injuries are life-threatening.

4. They just had the story on KIRO News.
The duck was standing on his owners hand...very tame. The Petco employee is at Harborview and has had surgery on her ankle.

5. Wow!
I was just there in November when I was visiting cousins in Everett. Poor lady. I hope her ankle will be OK.

And how many people do you know who take their DUCK into Petco? Seems like one of the nearby visiting dogs might freak it out a little.
