I've saved a life!

Of the canine variety, that is. Meet Magic, a 4 year old cocker spaniel that I adopted from the SPCA this week. He has a mild case of heartworms, and is undergoing treatment for it. The people at the SPCA told me the usually destroy any dog that is tested positive for heartworms, but he was so adorable they gave him a chance to be adopted. And I'm so glad! He is very sweet and well-behaved. He and my cats are getting along much better than expected (Nightmare, who is 13, and Smoke, who is 12), and he has had NO accidents since he came here. Good doggy! He knows how to 'sit', but is a bit eager on the leash. He only barks when someone comes by a window he can see out of or someone walks close to the door.

Anyway, just wanted to share my good news. After 12 1/2 years of being a 'cat only' person, I am now a 'dog and cats' person.

What a wonderful story, RadFemFl! I hope you and Magic share a wonderful companionship for many years. Good luck pulling him through heartworm, too (saw it on the website link). The treatment is expensive, but worth every penny.
