I was taking some basic electronics courses in the evenings, many years ago. The wife of one of my instructors happened to be a world class physicist (literally- she showed me her portfolio, and she'd studied and worked at universities throughout greater Europe and the United States). I enjoyed talking with her, and one evening she gave me a private physics lecture after class. (I think I made her husband jealous.)
Now I'm the kind of person who doesn't get math- I can barely figure out what two plus two equals. Yet I seem to understand many of the CONCEPTS of physics, and I enjoy reading about such things and contemplating them. It turned out I had recently read a magazine article on a subject related to the work her group was pursuing, and I told her about it and was able to find the article and give it to her. She was thrilled, and told me she was going to contact the writers and see if the two groups could collaborate. She then told me that when they published, she was going to make sure my name was included in the footnotes as a contributor!
I have no idea if she followed through on her promise, but I like to believe she did. It would be nice to be mentioned in a work that advanced the state of physics.
