My friend's mom passed away this morning from cancer.
He's devastated.

It's so sad. He's only 16.

2. Be there for him.
It is very hard to lose your mom. So many emotions, from loss to relief to guilt.

4. I'm so sorry
I lost my father at 16 after an extended illness. I know how hard this is for him. Best thing you can do is be available to let him talk when he needs someone.

5. I lost my mom when I was 36. I couldn't imagine losing her at so young an age.
The only thing worse would be for a mother to lose a 16 year old. So sad - hug your friend tightly.

7. I'm so sorry. That's rough.
he'll need a good friend to listen and be there for him. There's no soft landing for a loss like that, at such a young age.

I wish him and his family Peace and Comfort at this difficult time.

9. Mini- he needs a support group.
If you can get him to go to one, you will be doing him a huge favor. TeenMidlo's two best friends each lost a parent, one a dad, the other a mom, both to sudden car wrecks.

Their group of friends is awesome. They were totally there for both these sweet girls, but the problem is that the teens who didn't lose a parent, while still being friends, can't begin to understand the depth of the loss, nor the permanence.

We have a camp here for bereaved kids called Camp Comfort Zone. If there is anything like that near you, try to get him to go. Being around other kids who know EXACTLY what he's gone through is huge.

Prayers to your friend. And to you for being such a good friend to him.

It always hurts to lose someone close to you, but especially a parent. And, especially when you're that young.

I know you will be, but just be there for him. You don't need to talk, just being there will mean alot to him.
