anyone ever use these continuous ink refill thingies?

i used to refill my own, but epson attemted to outsmart me by putting a some "tattletale" chip in there.

6. I did once. It didn't work.

I have an HP printer, and I can't even use off-brand cartridges, yet alone the refill kits.

edit- nevermind. I never used one of those thingies.

i love my epson printers. but the ink prices are ridiculous. i have always done refills, but now they have this chip that kills the cartridge after it hits 10% ink left. grrr.

8. Usually, only 2 of 3 colors would print correctly. Sometimes just one.

This happened on a few occasions. No HP next time I need to get a printer.

11. i had an hp for a while.

i hate those "dark" cartridges. i refilled with the wrong color ink more that once. the epsons were always easy to refill.

it can be a messy afair. If you look on line, there are plenty of people selling refilled ones for a lot less than OEM plus they take your old one back so it stays out of the land fill.

10. i don't mind mess

like i said, i have done refills for years. i could rightfully be called an ink stained wretch. and the kids school recycles the dead ones for cash.
this chip shit pisses me off. but that't the game. make pennies on the printer, make big bucks on the ink.

12. I've seen them on wide-format inkjets

http://www.misterinkjet.com sells them for desktop printers, but IMO if you're printing enough to justify buying a rig like this for a printer with a nine-inch carriage, you should be printing on a laser and not an inkjet.

13. i have a laser as well,

i use the laser for anything letter size. in fact, i do have a large format laser. but it is laid up at the moment.
i don't use this printer that often. this is a 14" carriage, so a full coverage b3 photo sucks a lot of ink. these cartridges are so dinky. they burn so fast. and they are so freakin' expensive. such a waste to make this whole gizmo and put a itty bitty amount of ink it is. grrrr.
i just use it for things when that waxy laser look is not what you want.

14. my boss uses the refills all the time - you can also order the chip

so it doesn't know it's a refill. It's pretty sad when we can buy a printer for $200 and the cartridge costs more than half of that. (on laser jets anyway)

15. injets are worse.

although i think the toner carts for my konica laser cost me as much as the printer, you get a lot of pages for that. a full set for this $500 printer is $240. if i do full coverage large format, it seems like one cart goes out every 10 pages. can you say- scam?
