So, what do you do when you disagree A LOT with one of you DU friends in GD?

Seriously. It's an internet message board, not a grand epic. In the abstract, there are those here who have more emotionally invested in GD or The Lounge than is healthy, and hopefully one day they'll have some introspection and realize that. But I don't hold any hopes for that, frankly.

5. I try not to get too emotionally involved with any discussion here

If I disagree with anyone, I'm not afraid to say so and tell them why but I try to keep to the issues rather than drag anything personal into it. If the other person can't handle that, it's unfortunate but that's the same way I behave IRL.

and then I grab an umbrella for protection when the shitstorm arrives. No; usually I will post one or two supporting comments if challeneged, and then I will agree to disagree. Only IRL will I tell somebody they're a moron.

Nah, just kidding. If a friend goes off in a direction too divergent from my thinking, I first try to understand why that person has a different perspective but if I can't find a common ground I try to walk away from the thread without inciting flames.

It's rare that it happens, though. Most of the people I seek out as friends here are those whose opinions are tolerable to me, if not similar.
