Talk about poor pay.
Delivering newspaper bundles, about 600 papers over a 130 mile radius from about midnight to 4:30 am. This is 7 days a week regardless of weather ( I live in Iowa ).
Now, you use your own vehicle as well as your own gas and insurance. No benefits or mileage allowances. What would you be willing to do this job for in the middle of winter ?
Keep in mind gas is running about $1.54 a gallon and I would probably get about 15 mpg with my pickup loaded ( not really bad for a 66 dodge, but hardly phenomenal - but with the weight of the papers it would drag the mileage of anything down ) I've been job shadowing ( for free ) the last couple of nights and could have the job, however this job is not worth the hassle.
To give you an idea of how badly they need the help, they contacted me out of the blue, I barely know 1 person at the company and she got my number from a church going acquaintance of mine who knows I need a job.
So what would you expect this to pay a night ?
$37.50 a night.
After mileage and wear and tear on my pickup - I also have an station wagon but the weight of the bundles is enough that a pickup should really be used. I'd be lucky to make perhaps $20 a night, I doubt I'm jumping on this job, but it is terrible I'd even consider it with a collage education I find myself looking at jobs like this seriously.

1. Where in Iowa?

If in the Des Moines area, apply at Wells Fargo or Principal Financial. Both have numerous opportunities and WF will be hiring at least 3,000 new employees in West Des Moines in the next year.

If you are physically able, there is a need for over 2,000 construction positions over the next three years. There was an article just this week on all of the construction workers needed in Iowa. With Wells Fargo building two new office buildings and the new mall, the arena, the science center, the new freeway, downtown development, etc. They also said the new Jordan Creek mall will employee about 4,000 new employees.
