especially when they all escape from the kitchen and you don't know it, and you have ten puppies wandering around the house -luckily they always came to find me! But I have to be honest - that picture was taken in January, and the pups all have loving new homes, and I MISS them.

Their mom. and my other dog, and my cat, and even my four birds also type, answer the phone, and God knows what else when I'm not looking! I get in all sorts of trouble because of my zoo.....:hi:

190. I raise Lab/Golden Retriever mixes

as sort of a hobby that also supplements my income - it's really difficult for people where I live to find "mutts" that they can afford, and they really like that particular mix.

I don't care for labs, but my lab was the only puppy I could find that I could afford when I was looking. I then kept her daughter from her first litter, who is a lab/golden mix, and she's my "baby" now that my kids are grown.

My husband is a no dog (or cat) person, so we've had to do a bit of compromising, although I think the puppy thing is starting to grow on him. I can't imagine life without a dog - but if you decide to get a puppy, it's a lot of work in the beginning (think - new baby).

I just posted on another thread to someone who had lost her kitty, and recounted how it was when we lost our boy of 20 yrs. I didn't want to have another one ever--my heart was fractured. Then I went to make a donation at the local shelter in memory of our friend who graciously let us bury our boy on their rural property. That's when we met our girl and had to have her. The time was right! Neutering isn't as involved as spaying--w/ that darn collar. I ran around getting her 'amenities' like a nut, then having her home, the next three weeks I put my life on hold! I know it's way different to have a doggie. I want to be perfectly ready. We are trying to 'downsize' currently, and that's not going too well as planned.

Ah, whatz a pierogi pincher? As much as I have no fondness for any of the B**h family, #41 used the phrase "kinder, gentler" which I borrow to describe the nostalgic time of my life back in the 70's when the 'babas' would work their magic rolling out hundreds, thousands of pierogi in the coolness our church basement (with the still lingering aroma of incense from the last service) several times a year. I would volunteer to help, and they said I excelled at 'pinching' them (sealing the edges), which if not done right results in filling seeping out when they are cooked, thus ruined pierogi! Pierogi (pirohi) is a Slavic kind of ravioli, usually w/ savory/sweet filling. They get boiled first, then sauteed briefly in 100% butter, sometimes w/ minced onion added. They had pierogi devotees come from far & wide, always running out regardless of making a greater number than the previous sale. Our church (diocesan) newspaper would report all pierogi sales events in all communities, and it was funny, like 'dueling pierogi' contests, but in a harmless way! Those were the good ole days. Now my brain gets scrambled w/ the current state of affairs our country finds itself in. The nightmare begins when one wakes up in the morning.

193. Ah - to be back in those pierogi-pinching days!

I had some idea of what they were - I'm near Buffalo and they are somewhat popular in certain areas here. I always thought they were a Polish food, though. It is good to have a talent - I excel at cleaning up puppy poop - it's a special talent I've been told. Or, rather - I've been asked "how can you DO that", which I think means the same thing.

I had a cat for 22 years - from the day he was born to the day he died, and he was the best cat in the world. I've had several cats since then, but none have ever come close to him. He too is buried in a rural area - near the home I used to live in, around 45 minutes from where I live now. I too swore I'd never get another, but a woman I worked with actually brought one to work...how could I say no? She was sneaky, that woman.

Yes, that nightmare begins when one wakes up in the morning - to think that 3 or 4 years ago, I was in a state of ignorant bliss, until I could no longer ignore what was going on in this country, and started learning, reading, and catching up, after a life of being apolitical. If this administration could do that to me, it can do it to anyone (except for that 29% that will apparently follow it down into the abyss, or likes where the country is headed).

I'm hopeful that we're seeing the beginning of the end of the nightmare, with the Democratic majority beginning investigations, in particular, Henry Waxman, who has been waiting years for this, but also with the Senate investigations, and the slightly more balanced media coverage.

Funny you said re: 'cleaning'--one of my job descriptions currently, in addition to caring for kit's every need (the most enjoyable) and for three grown-ups (personal valet/shopper for two!), washing two families' clothes (we're either real dirty or real clean), in-house bookeeper, mess straightener-outer, hiring/firing agent, tax-time accountant, gardener/yard maintenance, appointment
co-ordinator, cheerleader/mentor, & on & on. Hub hasn't ever purchased a pair of shoes in almost 35 yrs. Or clothes for that matter, except for a few logo caps & golf shirts. I put his clothes out every nite for the next day, not to mention packing for a trip when I write lists of what to wear w/ what. I did this to them--me, myself & I. I used to get a charge out of it. I don't consider it controlling, or is it? They haven't minded. I also twist-tie mom's outfits together and write notes what shoes to wear and accessories for the week. Did have employment at one time. I appointed myself jack of all trades. (Just hit me, results from a test way back said my strength was in service to others?? Gee, thanx.) Put a plan into motion to simplify, needing to unload STUFF, but it's hard getting traction. I'm overwhelmed at times is an understatement. Still being somewhat of a perfectionist is detrimental to progress. Years ago I qualified to be an M. Stewart protege. Yikes! People still remember me for pulling out all the stops. Now I feel like I have busted my cork.

What you said re: a turnaround in the way our lives have been adversely affected by those entrusted to govern and preside. One could approach despair incrementally if not vigilant about one's own soul. Hope!

'Pierogi' is how the Poles call this yummy dish, and the Slavs (Eastern Europe) say 'Pirohi'. Our language is quite similar, with changes in pronunciation--hard 'g' for 'h' as shown. For instance, stuffed cabbage is called 'Holupki' by Slavs and 'Golumpki' by the Poles. I haven't made stuffed cabbage lately & now I'm havin' visions of 'em! I married a Swede and food is very well received all the way around!
