Best vinyl replacement windows.... any opinions?
I have 14 windows to replace - I'd love to hear from y'all who are happy with your new windows and would love warnings on who to steer clear of!

1. Renewal by Andersen
I replaced our windows a couple of years ago with this brand.

They aren't precisely vinyl, but use some combination of vinyl and wood that they reportedly market as better than vinyl alone.

I got tired of the wood frame windows that needed a coat of paint every two years, and these windows do the trick.

They're also dual-paned etc., and I think look pretty good.

RbA windows seem to ignite a lot of passion in discussion forums but I'm quite satisfied with them, and they were a lot more reasonably priced than others (Pella, in particular) that we were looking at.

3. Replacement windows are only as good as the installation.
there's a lot of good windows on the market. You hear a lot of bad things about Champion but they did my sister's windows about 15 years ago and thankfully her installation was nearly perfect. They were insulated and caulked and trimed properly. They've held up like new for 15 years and still no drafts or leaks anywhere.

Whatever you pick, make sure you have the SPECIFICS of installation written into the contract. Who measures? Who's responsible for wrong measurements? expandable foam insulation around the windows, caulking all the seams and joints on the flashing, what kind and what color of flashing etc.

When you are checking reference on installers GO TO THE HOUSE and see the job they did. You want a recent house since turnover on crews is pretty high.

5. Good advcie. I picked my windows and installer because they left a flyer
Showing the work they did on a neighbor's house. Saw the windows, saw the installation work, liked both, gave them a call. Good experience all around.
