Anti-Rape Device About To Hit Market (Female Condom With Fish-Like Teeth That Attach To Penis)
<snip>

Anti-rape device created by South-African inventor Sonnet Ehlers is about to hit the market after a long time of waiting for patent verification.

The female condom-like device called Rapex has fish-like teeth that attach to the penis.

This invention stirred a great deal of controversy all over the world. The main concern is whether the Rapex was a medieval device built on a hate of men or it can be considered an easy-to use devise that could help South African women protect themselves against rape.

According to Sonnet Ehlers the process of cheking is going to be up on April 10.

Sonnet Eshlers publicly announced her invention one and half years ago and shot to international fame as the invention stirred debates about advantages and disadvantages of Rapex.

The inventor took part in British and Australian radio shows and was interviewed by South American journalists.

Eshler said that she was not a male hater, she simply wanted to help African women to protect themselves against rape. Though the device might seem a good weapon to fight rape, Eshler has many opponents.

Even such organization as Rape Crisis Cape Town does not consider Rapex to be a solution to the social problem of rape and considers such a devise to be likely to increase female vulnerability to violence.

Eshler insists on the fact that the main advantage of her invention is that it could give a woman attacked by a rapist some vital seconds to escape the criminal while he is busy dealing with pain caused by the device. This would be great pain as 25 teeth of the device that is inserted in the vagina attach themselves to the head and the shaft of the penis. What is more, she says the device will help with proving the crime as the rapist will have to go to a doctor to have the fish-like teeth removed.

The product is going to be be mass-produced in China next month.

1. anyone else cringing after reading that?
the words "fish-like teeth" and "penis" should never be used in the same sentance.

4. Honestly
I see no problems with this device.

If you don't want to be the "victim" of the device, then don't rape women. It is simple really.

I did not think of that. Which is probably good, I don't want to know what kind of person does...:P

But in all seriousness, it is a valid point. The only thing I see as a counter to it, at least after thinking about it for only a few seconds is this, that this device gives the victim a chance at survival because the attacker will be preoccupied with his own pain and not on killing the victim, even 3o seconds would be enough time. And in all seriousness, when a rape is committed, I would think the possibility of being murdered is already quite high, I would think the victim would want any chance she has at surviving and escaping.

11. unfortunately
the pain is simply likely to enrage the rapist (which is why people are told not to think that kicking or kneeing someone in the testicles will help, the debilitation comes later, instead go for the eyes)

also, rapes in sub-saharan africa are not usually accompanied by murder, the punishment for rape is so light (and teh chances of being caught so low) compared to murder that it doesn't make sense (from the twisted perspective of the rapist) to escalate.

28. I think so too, I think he'd be so concerned about his own pain
that he'd think about trying to get relief for that before he thought of killing his victim.

So the point may be moot. Which is to say, it can help them avoid being murdered too.

7. interesting thought
bad idea, at least from preventative reasons. This really is more of a punishment technique, and I think it will expose women to more immediate violence as a result. Yes, rape is terrible violence, but what this is going to create is 1: greater risk of HIV infection among vistims (cause the guy is now bleeding in your vagina, not a good plan) and 2: retalitory violence against victims. Obviously a rapist isn't going to be shy about being violent, he's all worked up and angry, and now he's going to be really pissed off about a bleeding penis.

13. Great. So a rape will turn into a beheading or a stabbing or shooting.
Rapists are hothead coital mistakes to begin with. They're already fueled on adrenalin and rage, so I'm sure they're going to stop dead in their felonious tracks once they realize what they're attacking is now carnivorous with their dick as the meal. The victim will be lucky to get out of that situation alive.

"But what if the rapist is HIV positive? Doesn't wearing a device that cuts his genitalia while it is close to the woman's genitalia expose her to the virus (or other viruses)?" I mean, being raped also exposes her to HIV and other STIs/STDs, but--um, this seems like a way to get exposed to HIV even if you manage to avoid being raped.

20. WTF, the delay was because of concerns that it was
"medieval device built on a hate of men" and rape is just showing women the love.

Christ men can be such wimps - you don't want to feel the pain, don't friggin rape anybody.

Oh and don't have sex with anyone you don't know or don't trust, in case she is using it to have some revenge. You dumped a woman or treated her badly, you beat the shit out of your wife, then you might want to be careful, who knows whether or not she wants to make you pay.

22. I see two problems.
1. You'd have to be wearing one of these before the rape. Do they really expect women to walk around wearing one of these at all times just in case?

2. Rape is a crime of power and violence. How many rapists will beat and/or kill women when they get bitten by these things?

IF it wasn't so intrusive for the woman, and if it somehow incapacitated the man then this would be absolutely fantastic. But I don't see this being more than a symbolic solution as it is.
:(

27. apparently it was designed by a woman
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 10:25 AM by merh
There was the case of a man who broke into an elderly nurse's home to rape her. He crawled on top of her and lifted her gown, and instead of just taking it, she grabbed "him" and continued to twist and pull on it - he was in such excruciating pain all he could do was plead for mercy and beg her to let him go. She remained in control and with a firm grip, twisting and pulling on him, she lead him to the front door, onto the front porch where she eventually released him, pushing him off the porch. She then went inside and locked the doors and phoned the police. The police came to the house and upon investigation, found that the young would be rapist had left his underwear behind, complete with his name written on the waistband. The police went to where he lived and found him crouched in a corner, still suffering in great pain from the elderly nurse's defensive measures.

Point of the retelling of this story is rather simple, it would seem that this part of a man is very, very sensitive and often, if the right pressure/pain is applied to it, it is incapacitating. Yes, the woman runs the risk of angering her attacker even more and being killed, but she runs that risk if she just lays there and takes it. What would you have her do, lay there and take it?

31. In addition to those two problems, I see more...
3. The rapist will just force her to remove the device (since he probably already has a knife to her throat or a gun to her head). And he will probably be that much more violent towards her for having the device in the first place.

4. Barring that, the rapist will rape her anally or force her to perform oral sex or perhaps molest her with some other item.

30. 2 possible ways around this device-
once the first few dirtbags have had their dicks shredded, the devices will probably become fairly well known in the rapist community- and two possible "solutions" come to mind.

1. switch over to anal rape instead.

2. check for the device first, and remove it if found, before proceeding with the rape.

33. This is a Chief George Earl solution
"We don't need this neanderthal. We have a backup plan. We can just wait for another code to go red...and when Simon Phoenix performs another murder-death-kill, we'll know exactly where to pounce."
--Demolition Man

Now is it just me, or is an anti-rape device that works by your getting raped just a LITTLE on the strange side?

Rape is a crime of power and violence that uses sex as a weapon. NO ONE commits rape just because they want to have sex but can't find someone to have it with--that's what prostitutes are for.

Expect this to be on the market two months. A handful of women wearing the device will be raped by rapists who know to check for the device, they'll be killed and the device will be left on their bodies...implication being that they were killed because they wore the device, which seems logical. Women's groups, fearing the Rapex is causing women to be killed during rape, will call for its withdrawal from the market.

Oh by the way...if you have to walk around with a "rape prevention device" in your vagina on the offchance someone might rape you, the rapists have already won.

Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 02:59 PM by Hardhead
"Dammit, Louise, you forgot to take your Rapex out AGAIN! Throw these sheets in the wash while I call the ambulance."

BTW, for those who haven't picked up on the implications of "fish-like teeth:" This means the points of the teeth face back into the vagina so that it's impossible to remove the penis without tearing it to shreds.
