What's a good frequent flier program??
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 08:37 AM by 4dsc
I have the opportunity to charge and pay off between $20,000 and 40,000 of fuel(I'm a truck driver) and would like to know which frequent flier program is the best.. I usually pay cash until someone else in my company mentioned he uses a credit card to gain miles(we get cash advances to pay for our fuel).. ANd I thought why not.. But I am not to familiar with these reward programs and could use a little advice..

Should I go with United because they'll give 25000 bonus miles?? Is that a good deal??

1. I will tell you - and this is from someone who is a member
of nearly all of them - USAir Dividend Miles are worthless. I had the Bank of America Dividend Miles Card for 5 years, and I didn't think I was ever going to be able to spend the miles - they never would let me!

Pound for pound, Continental OnePass is a great program, though. I think they have a Chase credit card you can earn miles on.

2. I'm not sure where you live...
but I would take a look at the airport near you and figure out what is the dominant airline (has the most flights) at that airport and go with that. This will do a couple of things. If you DO fly and have to pay for a ticket, you'll find it easier to fly on your preferred airline. AND, when the time comes to redeem the miles, you'll have a wider variety of preferred flights.

Now, that said, if this airline is going bankrupt or there's something really bad, as the above poster said, then don't go with that. :) I live in Dallas and for me, it's American -- kind of a no-brainer as they are based here. Haven't had any difficulties with them yet.

3. Mileage
I have them all, but I like American Airlines AAdvantage because I go to 'Points.com'
and with the miles you can get gift certificates, because in my line of work I get free
airline tickets anyway!!!
