Mouse for computer geek with MS

His right hand is affected the most. I suggested a trackball, but most of them are too expensive for him.

Any ideas?

I suggested voice recognition, for other tasks, but it doesn't work well in his native tongue.

1. Touchpad might work.

A touchpad might work too. I assume, however, that if price is an issue with trackballs (make it optical, BTW) it would also be an issue with touchpads. I've met a fellow with muscular dystrophy who had only minimal motor control of his right hand and he got by on a trackball.

Looking at http://pricewatch.com , optical trackballs seem to start at ~$20 or below.

2. The tremors in his hand might make the touchpad

difficult. He also experiences numbness and weakness.

3. Maybe he can try to train himself to use the mouse with his left hand

I got bursitis in my right shoulder real bad from using a mouse, and I finally had to train myself to do the mouse with my left hand. It was difficult at first, but I finally got to the point that I can even pinpoint things precisely with the cursor. The less precise moves weren't that tough to learn. Also, if it's easier for him to use the keyboard, there are keyboard strokes to substitute for a number of mouse moves.

4. There are left-handed mice out there.

And Win OSs have a click-and-hold option which might be helpful. I suppose it depends on how advanced his condition is.
