37. Yes I was
This was in the days before "ski brakes". To prevent runaway skis, one had to wear "safety straps" that strapped the ski to the ankle, I fell, the binding unhooked, and the ski recoiled and hit me in the head.

And I did almost OD on medicine when I was little! I climbed the to the top of the medicine cabinet and took all of my grandfathers meds because they looked like red hots! Then I had to get my stomach pumped. And the very next year I did the same thing with some grape cough syrup (what can I say? It tasted good)! Had to get my stomach pumped again! Maybe I had brain damage! Sure sounds like it!

32. My family is famous for the hardness
of our skulls.

My concussions -
sidewalk after big wheel wipeout - 1983
Baseball bat (ill-concieved game called duck and run) - 1985
Tree (sledding accident, broke my nose too) - 1993
two car wrecks (I was passenger) - 1995 and 1997
City steps drunk - winter 1999

You don't want to know the number of times I SHOULD have had a concussion.

My brother was t-boned about 12 years ago, he had a slightly sore neck and a bruise on his head where he smashed it into his buddies head (his friends was knocked clean out by the impact of a Dropkick family skull).

People in my family tend to lead with their heads everywhere, we seem to have no perception of our bodies above the neck. I've even slammed my own head in a car door while perfectly sober. More than once.

39. Yep
But par for the course in my family. I'm surprised any of us survived childhood, to be perfectly honest. Games like duck and run (which consisted of one of us spinning in circles with our eyes closed while holding a baseball bat out at arms length, spinning all over the back yard while every one else had to duck and run) were quite common at our house. Duck and run, rock fight, and tree knock out (throw things at the person in the tree until they fall out) were the most memorable.

For some reason my mom always banned the games we made up, she was no fun.

40. I've had a few
not any concussions that I know of, but many (horse) riding falls.

One in particular - more to do with my nose, but it's on my head - had me riding a pony (they can be ornery critters) in a fun Christmas class. I asked him to canter(from a walk), he bucked me off and I landed on my nose. CRUNCH! Yes, that's the first thing that hit the ground. Everyone in the arena heard it.

By the time I got to the tack room (maybe 30 ft away at most) my nose was as wide as my eyes.

I went into a bit of shock, which involved me laughing hysterically throughout the rest of the evening, including the emerg room visit and the xray. (the latter was fun for the technician, I could barely sit still for a moment's time)

I was also in a car accident when I was about 14 - I was a passenger in the front, and wasn't wearing a seat belt (it was only a short ride in rural Saskatchewan). The driver, my cousin, had just gotten her license. She misjudged a turn and stopped dead - my head smacked the windshield. It actually left a bit of a crack.

Other people ran out of their cars (4 others - a busy traffic day there!); they were convinced I was hurt more than I was.

45. Head injuries are something of a hobby with me
Pushed off wall onto bicycle sprocket - 1971

Split back of head open falling off bleachers - 1974

Hit in head with large rock thrown from 50 feet away - 1976

Hit in head with baseball bat - 1979

Massive concussion in vehicle rollover - 1987

Pummeled by five or six drunks - 1989

Tequila fueled tumble down staircase, broken eye socket - 1991

Gashed head open on rusty sheet metal - 1997

It is a good thing I'm not losing my hair. My head probably looks like a well used golf ball.

48. Bicycle + toga + beer
I woke up in the ER and have no memory of the accident. I just know where it took place because I remembered where I was trying to go and a big puddle of blood was found next to my bike. I assume I got a concussion. The funny thing is that before the accident my wife had asked me to grow a beard. I told her I didn't think it would be right for me. After the accident the cuts on my face made shaving physically impossible. I decided that I liked the look and haven't shaved since then.

49. This is a long list for me. I'll try and put it in chronological order...
- Stitches and subsequent surgery on right eye from corner of Mom's Waterbed (circa 1976)
- Stitches over right eye from shovel injury (circa 1977)
- Stitches on under left eye and concussion from skateboarding accident (circa 1979)
- Absolutely flattened nose in car accident (The first of about 7 breaks) (1985)
- Concussion from collision with an 85 mph fastball (1986)
- Concussion from collision with a foul ball (1986)
- Stitches on side of head after collision with goal post (1987)
- Stitches under left eye (again!) after collision with airplane wing in Greece (1994)
- Stitches and staples on scalp after collision with door frame on a ship (Same deployment as above) (1994)

And if I'm just fine or not is still open for discussion.

57. Age 6 -- no concussion, but lots of blood
Went sprinting through the house, rounded a corner, hit a clear plastic Baggie someone (probably me) had left on the dining room floor, fell on my ass and skidded right into one of our dining room chairs, which had pretty hard edges. I had a big bruise on one shin, and cut my forehead open. It didn't really hurt that much, but I figured it was a good chance to get some attention, so I ran screaming into the living room with my hand over the spot I'd hit...whereupon my mom went white and started yelling, because blood was spurting through my fingers. Of course, then I started screaming for real...:-(

I really lucked out with the stitches, though; whoever was on duty that evening at the ER was truly master of the sutures, because the scar is so tiny that even *I* sometimes have to search for it!

Yup, we rode in the front seat back then kiddies, no car seat, no seat belt, no nothin'!

We got T-boned by another car at an intersection, I got stitches in three different places around my eye. We still don't know how the glass missed my eye. The bones around the eye are useful I guess. I still have the scars, but they aren't bad. We also still have the car. It still runs!

My husband got clocked by a low lying outlet five years ago and needed a few STAPLES in his head. When I asked him how they did that, he said, "It looks like an oversize staple gun."
