I am sad and angry this morning, Birthing Center to close
Last August, we had a Daughter, here's the post from that wonderful day....

I read in today's Washington Post that this Center, as well as another in Takoma Park, MD, will close due to rising malpractice insurance rates and lower reimbursement rates.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/26/AR2007032601618.html

There were no complaints about quality of care, no malpractice, a sterling record of giving birth as though it was a natural thing instead of some sort of disease. This seems to be another victim of Insurance Companies....

They were careful to make sure that any risky deliveries were conducted at a Hospital. The good news is that the wonderful, amazing, beautiful Midwives will still be delivering babies, but at a Hospital....

1. I wonder if the place had to have malpractice insurance.
The cost would have been unsustainable: even licensed MD ob/gyn practitioners are leaving the field because of the financial risk. It sucks.

2. It's too bad the docs in this country can't start behaving like human beings.

Or conduct themselves with a modicum of professional competence, preferably without any more entitlement mentality-laden complaining about how unfair your situation is. Can't be sued for malpractice if you don't commit malpractice/traumatize/brutalize/molest or assault any of your patients. Quit your whining, greedy, misogynist MDs. You wanted to be doctors? Shut up and do your goddamn jobs.

3. Well, the thing is that everyone has to pay high malpractice premiums even if they've never
had a malpractice complaint against them or their group. OB malpractice coverage (in my state) has to cover until the "baby" is 21 years old....just in case something turns up as they grow up..Please don't put all OB providers in the same bucket..I believe most are just trying to do a good job.
