10. Family Circus is about the UNgreatest cartoon, next to all the soap-opera comics . . .
. . . and Mallard Fillmore.

In the old ones, PJ looked like a bean with eyes.

14. I didn't want to be the first to say it. I'm glad to second you, though.
Every time the Washington Post is ready to add or drop a new comic, I'm always hoping "Family Circus" becomes one of the casualties. Instead, we just lost Cathy and Broom Hilda. I can do without the former but am pissed about the latter. :mad

28. Sing it, brother!
I loathe the strip, too, and have long wanted Barfy to find himself on the business end of an SUV's grill. We may as well get some use out of those vehicles.

Even my nine year-old niece can't stand that strip.

16. Looks like John and Elly are about to bust April and Gerald.
And on that same note, I don't know what they think is sexy in Canada, but pairing a hottie like Elizabeth with a freckeled molester-stache'd nerd like Anthony who looks like a combination of Ned Flanders and her dad . . . COME on.

30. Elizabeth won't go for Anthony.
And if she does, it'll only be after a divorce from the helicopter pilot (from the looks of it, April could be knocked up by then).

32. Right, because LJ's message appears to be "Attractive guys are bastards".
Edited on Tue Mar-27-07 05:03 PM by HughBeaumont
"Marry average looking single dads who look like your father . . . with a molester-stache."

Serious. Name one handsome man in FBOFW who WASN'T a bastard.

I've been reading this thing for decades, simply because Opus is now a weekend thing and there ain't no more Fox Trot or C&H.

And on edit - is anyone but me thinking there's a possiblity down the road of April switching teams? After all, this IS the only comic strip running with an openly gay character. It isn't like they couldn't . . .

33. Exactly.
I don't know anything about LJ's past, but I would not be surprised to learn that she got smoked by a handsome guy and married a five out of ten. Whenever a handsome guy is introduced to the strip, you know he's going to be a prick. I don't know who that cop was supposed to fool, but I didn't fall for it.

36. The only thing that surprised me was that
the guy who tried to rape Elizabeth looked like a loser. I expected any guy who tries to rape a Patterson female or a friend of one to be a handsome stud with a boyish smile that turns into a mean sneer.

18. This is what I love about FBOFW
the characters have aged and the dynamics have changed. I love that they deal with real issues and I'm pretty sure it's the only mainstream comic with an openly gay character (albeit a secondary one).

23. I love that strip precisely because the characters age.
I haven't been able to follow it closely in awhile though. Who is the gay character?

29. I'll take old "Far Side" single frames over new "Family Circus" any day...
Especially since there's been more and more instances of Keane making political jabs...

B.C. does that, too...
Most of those need to just be moved to the editorial page with Mallard Fillmore.
